    Fatal Furlong

Unless you read up on Josh's Adventure, I'm sure most people who play this new thing I uploaded for the contest won't have any clue what it is. So, here I hope to clarify just what this is and why it's been uploaded. It's a long story and a long post, so get yourself ready.

It all started when I worked on a preview for A Work In Progress, an RPG Maker 1 game. The game was great fun, and the humor was excellent, but the dialogue was awful, full of Engrish and really unacceptable. So shortly after starting up Quixotic Productions (my studio), I teamed up with the guys who made it (dragonproductions), and came on as a spellchecker and playtester. On the initial sweep of playtesting and spell checking I added in an extra scene, and one of the guys wasn't happy about it. To ease both sides, an agreement was made that I would have free reign to make one (of several) endings for the game.

This, for me, was great news. I had mostly free reign over a project I was involved in that I loved. And I already had several ideas planned out. So I got some instructions, the game as it was, and began making.

I had a few restrictions however; it was to be war themed, have a codec beginning, and a rambo bunny boss. Otherwise I was free to do as I please.

So began about a month's work of creating this ending, and I poured my whole heart and soul into it. I thought up every line of dialogue, carefully crafted cutscenes and make sure everything flowed exactly how I wanted it to. It was the greatest time of my life with RPG Maker. I had the experience granted to me from working on Usuru, and lots of creative ideas to bounce around. Looking back on it, it's kinda cool seeing how much fun I had working on it.

Then it got done and was proudly sent off......and it's lived in obscurity ever since.

The game it was based on has lived in development hell, and the creators of the game have gone silent. I got fed up with the lack of any news or work, and quit the project earlier this year.

So why am I releasing this now? Two reasons; one, I wanted people to experience the game, and the unique setting and ideas I came up with. The Anything Goes Contest was the perfect place to showcase the game.

The second reason is psychological. Josh's Adventure takes a lot of inspiration from this game. But I'm always tempted to directly rip scenes into JA. So, by releasing this ending, someone can cry fowl if I copy something. It forces me to think creatively and not rest on my laurels.

So, I hope this game will give you some fun (yet odd) enjoyment and see where some of the inspiration for Josh's Adventure came from.

    and a rambo bunny boss.
    Well, you got my attention.

Funnily, that mambo bunny was something the other guys wanted me to add. So in my game, it simply has a note that says "Insert Rambo Bunny here".

A mambo bunny would be a great twist, though!

        Bunny loves mambo...

            Re: Fatal Furlong

I never can seem to determine what will be popular and what won't be.

Case in point? Fatal Furlong, a game I figured nobody knew about, has 83 downloads in half a year. That's insane. To put things in perspective, Donkey Kong has one more download at 84, but it's been around for almost two years now. The demo for Josh's Adventure is lagging behind in the 70s right now. What the hell?

I'm completely baffled. I thought nobody was going to play this, but the exact opposite is true. I haven't heard anything from anyone about it, so please send me a pm or post if you've played it.

Other than that....I guess I should say thank you to those mysterious people who are downloading this game. Thanks.

Thanks to the fact that Fatal Furlong has been so popular, I've re-submitted the game which includes both dexdrive and PS3 format states. Now everyone can play this game. Thank you again to everyone who has downloaded this game.

                Heh. Wow.

There is a very large underground hit of people in the rpgm community who download games and never post in the forums.

I guess this shouldn't surprise me so much, but Fatal Furlong is now at 283 downloads since release almost a year ago. It stands now as the most downloaded game I've released. It has surpassed Usuru and Don't Move!, and what amazes me is these games were released four years ago. In less than a year, Fatal Furlong has beaten both of them.

So again, thank you again to the many unnamed downloaders who have made this game such a hit.

The game has been re-submitted to the site, and the updated version has compatibility with PS3 systems. The game was sent in for the anything goes contest and I'm sure a review of the game will be posted shortly for it.

Because the game has been so popular, I'm currently planning on making a sequel, which takes place directly after the events of the previous game. Expect Bradson to make another appearance, and new tracks and tricks to mess with!

That's it for now. Thanks again.
