    It's not my time yet

I just went upstairs after watching some of LOST season 6 (still have not made it through yet since its release on Blu-Ray) and caught the clock on the microwave. It was 11:11. I came back downstairs, and looked at the clock on my PS3, and it said it was 11-11.

I was about to have an, "OMG, I just witnessed 11:11 11-11 by accident" moment, but realized that my PS3 clock was still an hour ahead from daylight savings, and that it was still 11-10.

Last month, though, I did witness 10:10 10-10-10. And I hope to witness 11:11 11-11-11 next year.

In poking around the internet a while back now, I came across different theories about 11:11. Some say that those numbers have significance, and witnessing them is almost as if you are being shown something, or being given some sort of sign. This is also referenced in Waking Life.

Others say that the numbers have no significance, and that the only reason we put significance on them is due to the fact that those numbers in particular tend to stand out and make us take notice, moreso than something like 9:38 (as an example).

    Thoughts on this?

Synchronicity and coincidence. Pure chance, meaningless circumstance. Bull****.

Yeah, that's about right. The human mind for some reason needs to see patterns in things, and can have a hard time accepting mere coincidence. People tend to get superstitious about them.

Which is a much more amusing coincidence.

"You know, the most amazing thing happened to me tonight. I was coming here, on the way to the lecture, and I came in through the parking lot. And you won't believe what happened. I saw a car with the license plate ARW 357. Can you imagine? Of all the millions of license plates in the state, what was the chance that I would see that particular one tonight? Amazing!"

Hate to reference LOST again (okay, so I don't, really), but probably my favorite line of dialogue in the entire series comes from Mr. Eko, who said, "Do not mistake coincidence for fate."

I love that line, as it can be taken either way, depending on perspective and outlook.

                    >.> That's an entirely different matter altogether.

Umpteenthing the coincidence thing. "OMG, the numbers on the calendar align! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE BECAUSE THIS IS SIGNIFICANT SOMEHOW!"

Apophenia getting the better of you?

Perhaps that's why you enjoyed Lost so much.

                      And why I didn't.

BAM! This right here ^. Its why I didn't like Lost and why I didn't like The Number 23. People (humans) seem to have this need to find patterns in everything. From finding significance in random numbers to finding the unifying theory of reality/physics, to proving that P!=NP (or P==NP).

Although the last two are less about patterns and more about inherent truths in the way the universe operates. So... yeah.

Um, the show itself wasn't very concerned with connecting the numbers to anything grand. It was just a little flourish that they enjoyed including in background elements. People like Perversion are honestly turning people off from a good show. {:s
