    Kinect

Anybody picking up Kinect? If so what games are you getting? Or if you plan to get it in the future what games interest you?

Seems like the only game of any interest is Dance Central. Besides that and Sonic Hoverboard Hijinks (whatever it's called) the launch lineup is mostly fitness titles and minigame collections. So at least at this point they haven't bothered to bring anything new to the motion gaming climate.
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

It's stupid, barely works, has no potential use for any games I'd ever want to play because it doesn't have buttons, and you have to redecorate the room you play games in just to accomodate the thing. No.

This, this, this. I tried Sonic Riders and some awful Brain Age thing with it. Both made me want to yank the thing out and smash it on the floor.

      SO

What did you play, Valk? :3

        Re: Kinect

Does anyone else have a feeling that on a whole, the Pavilion will have nothing but derision for this thing?

I've yet to use it, but all you have to do is tell me that there is no tactile controller, and that their target demographic seems to be lapsed Wii owners and/or "casual" 360 players (is there even such a thing, considering how a majority of 360 gamers consider themselves "hardcore"?), and I can project ahead by a year and a half and tell you that the thing will fail miserably.

To me, there's no question that the dashboard navigation is slick, and pulling up Netflix (assuming that's compatible), the ESPN thing they demo'ed at E3, and any multimedia content will work very well. As an attempt to push the 360's multimedia capabilities, it stands on its own merits. But as for actual gameplay, time will tell, but I have a feeling that it will be a miserable failure.

I have no doubt that many, many people will buy the thing, as it's one of the first add-ons that's more than an almost basic requirement (play and charge kit, wifi adapter, etc), and will be sucked in by the "gee whiz...a shiny new bauble" factor. But I also have a feeling that the novelty will wear off fairly quickly, and many people will come to realize that they paid $150 for an (admittedly slick) way to navigate menus.

With the PS3 having an (arguably) better console for multimedia (especially having embraced, or some might say, having influenced, Blu-Ray's adoption as the standard), the only thing Microsoft really could do was to put a shiny new coat of paint on a weathered, aging vehicle in the hopes of fooling potential buyers into thinking that they were buying into a supersleek sport coupe, when in reality, once the hood is popped, it's revealed to be nothing more than a 4 cylinder economy 4 door that hopes to appeal to the widest demographic possible. Yeah, it might look pretty on the outside, but methinks that as a whole, the experience will probably be a bit shallow, and will eventually settle into the mundane once the novelty wears off.

Funny, because this also describes the Wii to an extent (minus the "pretty on the outside" part).

If the 360 were in my living room, not my bedroom, I'd give it a shot. As such, nope~

            Re: Kinect

Yeah Perv, I got a Wii and the novelty of it was lost on me about a month later. Due to terrible control schemes that most designers had integrated (non-Mario, etc) it was a pain in the ass to try to play some games, like Destroy All Humans.

I haven't touched the damn thing in ages. And probably the next time I turn it on will be to see if The Last Story can actually have a good control scheme.

I feel the Kinect is probably in the same vein. While I don't have an XBOX, I imagine a lot of hardcore gamers won't embrace it. Controllers are just way too good for games, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Nothing, but I've never seen a single video, even among those that MS puts out, of the damn thing functioning properly.

I thought Kinect was the next step in evolution for video games?

That's what I hear about every new game. Like moving away from turn-based RPGs to FPS/RPG hybrids counts as evolution.

I'm getting a Kinect today. You guys wanna come over?

Next evolution in gaming? No. Neat? Yes. But I'm weird in that I like physical activity.

                      Re: Kinect

If it was packaged with Dance Central and 50$ cheaper I'd buy it. Considering Dance Central was probably the most fun game I played at Gamescom.

It "functioned" properly for me. And that's a game that can't be done on the Wii or Move.

edit: I'm curious to see peoples set up's that got Wii, Kinect, and Move all in the same living room.

At first there was no chance I was ever going to get a Kinect.

                        Then Tokyo Game Show happened.
