Yes, the picture looks ridiculous. The Pentagon's reasons for developing it aren't. Whether or not it will actually fly (*ahem*) remains to be seen. Like the article said, DARPA has developed things in the past that were important technological breakthroughs, but also some pretty crackpot stuff too. That's pretty much how military research goes. They're investigating stuff like laser weapons because, well look how much they appear in science fiction, and someone will probably come up with it eventually if it's at all feasable. But then the military has also researched really silly stuff like the gay bomb.
Just think, all of you out there who want yer flying cars and are wondering just where the hell they are. This might be an imprtant step in that direction.Comment
