We should limit it one or two games per post to make it more interesting.
My pick is easily Resident Evil 4.
RE4 kind of encompasses everything a game can be, and what videogames can offer.
-Flawless gameplay
-amazing visuals and audio
-fun and entertaining cutscenes
-above all; innovation.
All of which amounted for a game that was almost 20 hours long. Never once did you back track, or did it get repetitive. Not to mention all the unlockables and extras that kept you playing for months to come. Resident Evil 4 to this stay is still the most fun I've ever had with a game, and sadly I doubt that'll ever change for me.
edit: ****. mora beat me to it. a;lsdkfjasdl;kfjasdkl;fj
- Story takes a break from the generic progression of most Zelda games
- The game is full of cool tunes!
- The song that plays during the final hours of the last day, hearing that song while the bell in clock tower is chiming is so intense
- Being able to shape shift brought about a brand new aspect for the Legend of Zelda series (I think it was new at the time)
- Collecting masks that effect the way people in the world interact with you was cool and kept everything feeling fresh
- The ability to actually get to know the NPC's in the game by helping them out with their various problems added a lot of depth to each character
- Having to relieve the same three days over and over like you're in that Bill Murray movie was awesome
- And damn, did that moon ever add a since of impending doom.
- I love this game
- Oh, and the fact that your fairy wasn't constantly screaming at you
It's an old text game, but Douglas Adams wrote it and worked closely with the developers, so you MUST give it a go before you die (on December 22nd, 2012 - or earlier!).
Douggy also wrote Starship Titanic, a PC Game - but it's not as good. But still... it's Douglas Adams!!
I also highly recommend all of the PS2 Discworld games!
They are a great bit of Madcap Fun by another Great Brittish Madcap - Terry Pratchett. Reason enough to play them right there.
It's a man's game and it's so ****ing manly you'll grow a beard playing it. And if you already have a beard, you'll grow another one. What's that? You're a girl and you don't want a beard? Then your vagina is gonna turn inside out and you'll grow a pair of balls. That will later grow a beard. The game is so hardcore that the game actually gets harder the better you are. God Hand will send a pack of midgets and a 1000-lb gorilla to stomp on your face and you'll be coming back for more because you crave the abuse. God Hand is the abusive lover who gets too drunk and hits you, but later tells you she's sorry and that she loves you and then gives you the most amazing sex you've ever had. While punching you in the face. And then she kicks you out of bed because she doesn't want to cuddle with your sorry ass afterwards.
Throwing the enemies off with the Wiimote is annoying (I assume this is not an issue in the PS2/PSP versions) and it's unfortunate that the combat and exploration sections are so seperate. But besides that it's a great experience and really leaves you feeling that you played through a story more than most games.
Because the final battle involves a sad scene with a giant brain on a dinosaur's body beating down on a giant soul-sucking floating blob that thinks you are its mother and then you get to go all ape-**** on the dino-brain with rainbow-colored beams of death? It doesn't get much than that, my friends.
