Alien Prequel: Please, God, if you're listening......

    http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/04/23/...ails-revealed/
Don't know if you guys know about this, but I've not been so dubious since I heard about The Expendables.
What's the point of having an emergency response system if you can't provoke the wrath of God?

I wish Hollywood would actually come up with more interesting original stories again.

The comics already explained who the spacejockey was, and everything. Hell there was even one where a dying spacejockey had a chestburster, and it was gigantic.

The Aliens origin is a mess though, but whatever. Im cool with that. Some stuff explains the aliens are from a world where EVERYTHING on their home planet were deadly killing machines and they evolved to the top of the food chain over billions of years. Other stuff says theya re genetic experiments gone wrong, etc, etc. Some combine the two and say they were deadly predators form an alien world that were then experimented on and enhanced, and then they broke loose.

I'm actually looking forward to it!

I LOVED the first film, and if they tell the story of the Space Jockey with the original film's producer I don't see how it can suck.

Hopefully they get H. R. Giger involved on some level

And if the pookies don't have those ugly bumpy heads, I'd enjoy it even more.

This may get me out to the theaters for the first time since when The Return Of The King came out!!

          MOO!

That's all well and good cuz that's "expanded universe" stuff and fan conjecture. When you explain the background of a famous mysterious movie villain in THE OFFICIAL MOVIE PREQUEL DERP, you inevitably **** it up.

We've BEEN through this A MILLION TIMES ALREADYYYYYY

Maybe they will finally explain why Bishop was in AvP. :B

I thought he was the guy who founded the Company.

Anyways, it's more than likely not going to be about the Space Jockey, since they're already throwing around names like Natalie Portman and Noomi Rapace for stars.

He was. But the problem is that the human Bishop was modeled after showed up in Alien 3, and was not mentioned as being a head of the company or anything (also, the vast gulf in time difference means they can't be the same person, and while identical descendant is possible, it also sounds kinda stupid). So it is a bit of a plot hole.

I'm very very skeptical...but it does have a chance to not suck.

Rodak, you haven't been to the theater in 7 years? I know the ending(s) to Return of the King was/were bad, but I can't fathom why they scared you away for quite so long.

Wow! I just finished my annual Alien movie marathon.

Glad they're at least not trying to tack even more onto Ripley's story (considering how ridiculous Resurrection was), and I do recall on the Alien commentary something about Ridley Scott wanting to eventually explain his vision of how the Aliens were created, or maybe a movie where they find the Alien homeworld and destroy it.

The Lord of The Rings trilogy was my first stint back to the theater since the last of the original Star Trek films.

I'm just not that into movies, and the new ones don't have much that I would enjoy anyhow.

Even television isn't a part of my life anymore! Haven't even turned it on (for broadcast stuff) in just over 5 years now. I do still watch my old 3 Stooges tapes and discs, and some other stuff in my collection - but I dropped out of the new stuff completely.

This movie, however, may be just what I was waiting for!

And about the Bishop/Ash thing... In The Two Towers, in the theater, when Treebeard was summoning the other Ents by name, going down the list - he said something like (I forget the exact quote) "Beech, Oak, Redwood, Ash..." and as soon as he said "Ash" I blurted out "Ash is a God Damned Robot!"

First time I saw the movie too. I said it quietly to my friend sitting next to me, but quite a few people started laughing - so I guess I wasn't as quiet as I intended to be.

                      MOO!

If they make a movie of the latter idea, I hope it's Cameron in charge, and not Scott. I have no faith that Ridley Scott (or perhaps anyone) can do an action-based Alien film as good as he did. But with this prequel idea, it's less of a problem; everything about it says it's more atmospheric horror a la the original film. Much more his speed.

I suppose that's good on you, Rodak, but I think cutting these things about completely is not the answer. Just a bit of moderation. By never turning it on, you've missed some of the best experiences in the whole entertainment field.

Like LOST! :3. Speaking of which, I got my LOST encyclopedia in the mail yesterday. I'll have more to say about the topic at hand once I click the link.

Ridley Scott is doing the two prequels, so yes, it is him in charge.

The filmmakers of Alien 3 have stated he was another android, but that seems more like a 'sure why not' kind of retcon to me. And, I may be remembering it wrong since it was a long while ago that I read the article.

EDIT: They wanted to make it ambiguous. And Lance Henrikson thinks it is an android.

Oh, and Scott wants the prequels to be 3D. Mmmm hmm.

Hmmm....I guess that's not the worst retcon ever. It still is one, though, that definitely was not their original intention. I'm just not buying that part.
