The cutscenes are basically just an animated comic book like the webisodes for dead space 1. Which is fine. I like the art.
Voice acting is horrible. Just sounds more like the people are just doing lame cold reads.
In the story, there's a hot chick who runs around shooting the necromorphs as an outbreak occurs. This is not the character you play as. Instead, you're some guy who hacks software in order to fix things. The actual hacking is not as exciting as the description might make ya think. It's basically an animated comic with three types of mini games tacked on, and none of them are any fun.

On the bright side, playing this game will unlock stuff for Dead Space 2. Plus it's only like $5 (free if you pre-ordered Dead Space 2 from certain sellers), and you can choose different paths in the story. Not real deep, but there's a little variety.
