    DO ask, DO tell!

This morning, I found out that "Don't ask, Don't tell" has been deemed

    UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!!!

this means that gay and/or Bi people can get into the military (and be open about it) without any hassle!

I'm all for this, becuase my sister's Bi, and plans on joining the airforce. The sad part is that Fred Phelps is probably sending WBC members to protest outside the WhiteHouse. **** them (And not in a good way)!!!

Yay, another plot twist for the November elections.
      ...and that's why.

Are the Republicans BAD enough to campaign against DADT? Or save the President?

I bet they'll pull out that "activist judges" crap again, but most people are against Don't Ask Don't Tell.

Well, if anyone's ever heard of the Sacred Band Of Thebes... those guys were all gay AND badass soldiers. Perhaps America could become Greek... I took some Ancient Greek language classes.

I wouldn't really want to fight for a country that views me as a second class citizen or an abomination.

Or fight for a country at all.

              But cool.

                I like women.
                There. I said it.
Now call me empowered and make me feel special for having a particular sexual orientation.
What's the point of having an emergency response system if you can't provoke the wrath of God?

                    Re: DO ask, DO tell!

I dunno if I'd ask, personally. I don't go around asking people their sexual orientation, as I don't think it affects how I should regard them, or behave towards them.

But if they or any in the military feel like telling me, fine. More power to 'em.

I'm glad to hear it. Got a friend who is no doubt quite pleased at this bit of news.

                        Re: DO ask, DO tell!

I've always thought we should let people serve the military regardless of what that persons sexual orientation might be. Not that I really felt comfortable speaking that openly when I was in. It's just one of those things you can't talk about in uniform, or even around other soldiers out of uniform. What I used to think would be sad is once gays became able to enlist without having to keep it a secret because of all of the hazing, verbal and physical abuse that would occur for a while. I remember this one soldier in AIT. This guy was harassed pretty bad by quite a few leaders in my company, just because they had a suspicion that he was gay. It was seriously ****ed up.

This is a slippery slope, guys! If we allow homos in the military, what's to stop the government from allowing children? Or animals?

Thing is the "don't ask, don't tell" part of the policy was fine. But the part where you still had to sign a contract that allowed them to end your career and/or jail you for doing something in your personal life that would other wise be pefectly legal seemed more than a little unconstitutional.
