    When did The Simpsons start sucking for you?

    I think I may have asked this once before, but since it came up I decided, "let's give it another go and see if anyone changed their mind". I know the Tomacco episode was a popular choice among people I talked to.

    So, what was the point where you started to realize that The Simpsons kinda...sucked, and may have been for some time now?

    For me, it's still the episode where Mr. Burns goes to the Mayo Clinic and has Homer take care of his mansion, resulting in him taking his yacht out to international waters for a ROCKIN' PARTY. Augh.

      For me it was when they started putting 4 storylines in one episode. I remember this one where Homer had a murder of crows. I was like WTF, and not in the charming WTF way. It seemed like they were trying to be Family Guy. I know it got better, but I didn't recover from those days.

          I never made a habit of watching Simpsons.

          Edit for Mora: Therefore, sadly, I've never had the opportunity of knowing good Simpsons episodes. Therefore, not as sadly, vis a vie, consequently, such as is, I never saw when they started sucking.

              I think I only watched regularly for the first three seasons. Season 4 was sporadic (if memory serves), and I've not watched it after that. Then again, 1992-1993 is about when I stopped watching TV all together, and only began again for 24 and LOST.


              I did see the Run Lola Run and the Heavenly Creatures episodes later, though.

                In my opinion it started to drop off in 2002 (I believe they were undergoing a major change in writers at this point), and became crap by 2003, when they traded away interesting character-oriented storylines and hilarious dramatic irony for ADD-style plots that jump everywhere and cheap (albeit sometimes funny) potshots at current trends. You could see it as Homer went from the clumsy everyman to the utterly capricious, violent, plot piece.

                It's been slightly better recently (I watch maybe four episodes a year), but is still a long, long way from its form during the Golden Era of '96 through '01.

                  I don't know exactly, somewhere in season 10 or 11.

                    Yeah, I agree with Caciss; somewhere around season 10. I think there might have been a couple decent episodes in season 11. I would guess that a lot of the more talented writers moved onto Futurama.
