What is "Community" (Season Five with Dan Harmon!)

I'm sure by now you guys have noticed that both my avatar and signature are adorned with protagonists who turned this skeptical male into a unabashed fan in a matter of a few episodes.

Community chronicles around a lawyer named Jeff Winger, who discovers that his license is basically fraudulent. Thus, he must attend a collegiate institution known as Greendale, and it is there that he strolls upon a female, and is willing to go above and beyond in order to get with her.

Add in a series of secondary, but overall interesting characters (including Chevy Chase and Donald Glover from Derrick Comedy), and you have a series that just brings in the laughs and entices you to watch another episode. So far, the series is at the beginning of its second season, while the first was just released on DVD a week ago (I bought two copies; one for me, the other as a wedding present for one of my friends).

I understand that my opinion may leave a few members here giving me the side eye, but I'll be honest. I didn't know anything about this series until a friend from college recommended it...strongly. Out of curiosity, I consented, and I never looked back. I hope that many of you will feel the same way...if you so happen to take an interest in this series. New episodes air every Thursday at 8:00 p.m. EST on NBC, right before The Office.

Thank you so much for your time.

I had no idea what your avatar/sig were indicative of until now. I think I've heard good things about this show. Not enough to make me want to plug in and hook up my satellite box, however.

You should watch the paintball one.

I've watched a couple episodes and I just don't find the show to be very funny.

I keep hearing about the paintball one, I might give this show one shot just for that episode because apparently it's the bees knees.

Mora told me not very long ago that the show seemed to feel very disingenuine.

He should watch the Season 2 premiere to understand the show's appeal.

                  edit:

The paintball one is pretty great, but it will really ruin the rest of the first season both spoiler-wise and entertainment-wise if you watch it first.

The paintball episode takes the characters out of their normal element and shouldn't be watched first.

It was a good episode though.

I saw the pilot when it was free on PSN and really liked it but kept forgetting to tune in like with every tv show. I think the next one I saw was the season 1 finale. Anyway, what I've seen I liked.

If you haven't seen it, all this hype probably is setting you up for disappointment, but still, I will go so far as to say that the paintball episode of Community was the funniest thing I saw on TV last year.

                          Re: What is "Community"?

Haven't watched it, since I stopped with the NBC Thursday night comedies ever since My Name is Earl stopped being funny. I like The Office, but didn't watch it enough to keep up with it, and 30 Rock...well, it's not good. That it's spoken of with the same reverence the critics used to use for Arrested Development mystifies and alarms me. Naybe I'll see if I can find the pilot somewhere. Last time someone talked me into watching a comedy I was unsure about was Always Sunny, which I now like a lot.....

...and just realized I missed from being out tonight. Damn. IMDb says we have another replay at 1 AM, so I'll just do that.

I haven't been interested in any of the network comedies enough to watch, though Community mildly piqued my interest recently. Might have to give it a look.

Since this topic seems to be of plugging favorite shows or something, I recommend Louie, starring Louis C.K. It might appeal to the more miserable bastards around here, but it definitely has a hit-or-miss quality to it. I personally love it and am glad they renewed it for a second season.

From what I understand it's from the same people who did Arrested Development.

Let's hope this lasts more than 3 seasons.
