    R.I.P. Greg Giraldo

He wasn't the greatest comedian but he always entertained me and made me laugh...and everyone says he was a great guy. He accidentally OD'd on perscription meds at the age of 44. I'm really gonna miss him at the next roast.

It's really unfortunate the guy was relegated to those ****in' Roasts. Although he was always a highlight of those things, he was smart and good enough to do way more.

It also sucks how he kept getting pinballed around Comedy Central. Anchoring a basic cable Friday night block must have been soul-sucking.

Let's not deify him now that he's kicked the bucket due to an apparent inability to read a label (or just a thinly veiled excuse for a suicide, you can bever be sure). Giraldo wasn't the best. Except he might have been the best on that Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn show, but that's just by comparison to Colin Quinn. But yes, a moderately amusing comedian died tonight. And his constant presence at the roasts will be...well, I guess missed works. It seems a tad strong though, it's not like anyone tuned in for him. He was just a decent way to pad out the length between actual celebrities.

I'm glad that comedians could get it together to die in a way which was pleasing to your arbitrary whims, Hrafn.

I don't really know who that is. I think I saw his stand up act, like once... maybe. I dunno. His picture looks vaugely familliar.

I thought it was Geraldo Rivera for a second.

So yeah, sucks that that guy is dead. At least Geraldo is still alive.

How come if you're famous and relatively young, you have to die of overdose?
              ...and that's why.

Because your odds of dying from cancer or heart failure are virtually nill?

I would say that he was the class of the second tier of comedians.

Greg Giraldo was a pretty funny guy. Some of the material he used granted was risque, but I liked he wasn't afraid to go into that territory of comedy, and I really am gonna miss his comedy. As Mora said, it's a shame he was pinballed around Comedy Central, because he could do his own stand-up just fine.

I think it's really unfortunate he died the way he did. RIP, Greg. May you tell jokes while Billy Mays sells more fantastic products.

Pretty much, I agree with Hrafn.

Greg, like Hrafn, is only a moderately funny man who successfully trolls people during roasts, and is otherwise unknown. For everyone who never seemed to mention him before as a pinnacle comedian, I for one, am tired of seeing "OMG SO SAD" from my real life friends when I know they really only care because he's the next celebrity to die of stupid.

Not to say it isn't "sad," but this is only a spectacle due to the media's love of spinning celebrity deaths into stories is the only reason this is "important."

500:1, the meme of next years roast is all the comedians will have Giraldo' OD jokes. Its so obvious it's going to happen, it isn't even funny.

I'm moderately funny? That's more than I was shooting for. I guess I picked up another admirer; what will I do with them all? I already won over 50,000 people last weekend, who showered me with a loving chorus of boos and more than a few middle fingers.

And I would not take that bet. Hell, if it had been someone else, Giraldo would have made them himself (something people should also consider when seeming to be so sorrowful about his demise; rest assured if you had died in an amusing enough way, he'd have wasted no time making a possibly funny joke about it). Now it'll probably be Lampanelli who runs with it.

                        Re: R.I.P. Greg Giraldo

Giraldo was actually ridiculously funny for those who have seen him outside of television. He was a comic's comic and a workhorse. Anyone dying at 44 is sad - let alone someone as bitingly aware and downright funny as him.

                        This is weird.

                        Peace.

Never thought he was the greatest thing, but he was an enjoyable fellow. I always felt that he never really got the time he deserved. Is there anything on television with him in any kind of memorable role. All people seem to want to see is Dane Cook acting like a five year old that found the stash of chocolate. Rest in peace, Greg. Tis a pitty.

I disliked this guys comedic act. But it's still sad that he died.
