Does anybody here like to create an RPG series?

Sometimes, one RPG can become either so successful or endearing to the creator that he or she decides to make a sequel to that game, and many more sequels thereafter--thus laying the groundwork for an entire RPG saga under one name. A game can either have direct sequels (Phantasy Star series for the Genesis) or indirect sequels (Final Fantasy series).

I know there was Dynasty Project--with five games including a remake. And, with the RPGs you may be currently working on for RM1 and RM2, in addition to the ones you're planning for RM3, are you guys thinking of making sequels?

Well, I'm making a non-linear game, which makes sequels a pain in the *butt*. But, if enough people like it, I'll probobly make a sequel.

Yeah actually a lot of the games I think up of have a sequel idea along with them, though most of them have only had one follow up game. When I finish my current game I may make the sequel to it, as the sequel will have quite a big twist to it. The other game idea I have come up with, though probably will not make until I hopefully become an actual designer will hopefully be a 5 part series, each taking place 500 years from the last one. So sequels are fun to do most of the time, but a lot of times making sequels to games that don't really need one, ie the story had a rather unambiguous ending with closure to almost everything opened in the story, can hurt the story.

I had an idea for a trilogy called the MoonStar Saga. In the first part nocturnal monsters are killing everyone so they create an arificial star and place it close to the moon so that night is as bright as day. Part 2, a strange fog starts to spread and the nocturnal creatures return in the pockets of darkness. Part 3, the world is half light and half dark and a new monster appears that can survive in both. I never made it on RM1 because I was thinking it could be done better on 2.

I have a series still in development (5 years! woo!). most of the installments will be on RPGM1 so I dont have to change the character's appearances drastically. the custom art is a big help too.

im making atleast 2 sequels to my current game, Eternal Darkness. The second one with RPG Maker 3 and the third one with 2. (Expect a CBS in the third game!)

I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but I was thinking that maybe you could create games with different stories and characters, yet leave the title as is. Final Fantasy had a lot of games, but the stories and characters were different--the only references between them were the Chocobos, Moogles, and Cid the Airship Engineer.

I was toying with an idea of making a series, but all the stories would be different. I'd create some small references that will proliferate into the sequels without tying the stories together, giving them some connection while not compromising their individuality. For instance, using Cid as an example, I thought about creating a character that served a particular purpose in the games. He or she would take different forms and personalities, but had a certain knowledge of something that carried the games (like machines, magic tomes and stuff like that)

Again, like I said, I don't know whether or not this is a good idea. You guys might even have some ideas like that, too!

I'm making 2 games right now that can both have sequals. one of them is a comedy game and there's going to be many many sequals for it. the sequals will stop when the funny ideas do.

Well I have one game that was to have sequels but found it it would've taken too much work, one game that hinted at a sequel but the sequel never made it past the planning stages, one game where just because it has a number at the end doesn't mean it's part of a real series, and two games that are left open for sequels yet I have no intention of making any.

So, uh, no.

I plan on making 5 games in a series, most of them will be made using RPG Maker 2 due to its flexibility.

I'm working on a couple projects right now with RPGM2, which may or may not have sequels, and I made a game awhile back which I fully intend to make into a full 4-part series collectively called The Omegablade Saga.

OS1 ended with the four characters transported to another world. The 2nd and 3rd installments will deal with them being split up, with the 4th dealing with what happens when they're reunited. I'd have the 2nd installment done right now, but I became frustrated w/ RPGM2 and lost the use of my dex drive. RPGM3 will probably be the platform for not only the sequels, but also a remake of the original (Contingent on whether or not Valk finds the original, and if there's demand for a remake).

As for the other projects:

The Other Side, my take on the survival horror RPG, is unlikely to have a direct sequel, though there may be a couple of indirect sequels.

Corporate Ops, a sci-fi game about corporate hitmen, is likely to have several sequels (I also plan on writing short stories to fill in gaps in the plot between stories, as well as unveiling alternate plot threads, so keep an eye on Imaginari).

Of course, the problem w/ direct sequels is that your characters ideally are earth-shatteringly powerful at the end of one game, only to become Lv. 1 weaklings again at the start of the next. Still, if it's a good game, I doubt anybody will complain.
