I have recently begun to experiment with something I'm calling the MicroRPG. Basically, it's an RPG, only the story and content is a much smaller scale. The reason for wanting to play such a small RPG, which I figure should take between 30 minutes and an hour to play, is when you want the satisfaction of completing an RPG, only you don't have a lot of time to do so.
Here's the prototype of this experiment:
NobleQuest
An evil wizard has captured the princess and taken here to his dungeon outside the city. You, the King's best Knight, must enter the Dungeon and rescue the princess. (I know the story is cliche'd, but this is only a prototype, after all).
Anyway, here're the specifics: The game starts in the King's throne room. The King assigns you to go rescue the princess. When you want to leave the Castle, you'll come to an invisible touch event, which asks you where you want to go. You can select the Item Shop, the Dungeon, or Neither. The Dungeon and Item shop have similar events in them, at the doors.
Now, the dungeon has only 3 floors. The 1st and 2nd floors have Goblins and Orcs to fight, respectively, in 1-on-1 battles. you receive 500 EXP and GOLD from Goblins, and 1000 EXP and GOLD for Orcs. Beware, because Orcs are tougher, obviously.
Lastly, on the 3rd Floor, you face the Wizard, who taunts you, and you engage in a 1-on-1 boss fight. After defeating his human form, The wizard turns into a dragon. Fortunately, The Princess joins you in battle, and she knows a wealth of healing magic. After the Dragon is defeated, the game ends.
If anyone would like to come up with a MicroRPG idea, they're free to comply.
