    RPGM3 Soul Weaver

Twenty years a go a terrifying demon was threatening the village of Twilight Grove. This demon was known as a Brimstone Imp. The Brimstone Imp was a terrifying being. For he didn't kill his victims. He just devoured their souls. Although he was a small demon he had an incrediable appetite. For this demon could eat an entire village and still be hungry.

There is only one way to defeat Brimstone imp. And that was to give him a soul of a baby. So the villagers, with great sadness, offered up one day old, baby Sierra. The terrifying Brimstone Imp devoured Sierra's soul.

Even though Sierra had saved the village, she wasn't considered a hero. Many of the villagers began to fear her as she had no soul. The older Sierra got the more villagers feared her. They feared her because she was different from them.

Unfortunately for Sierra it was easy to tell that she didn't have a soul. For her eyes were ice cold and looked like they had no life in them. However, Sierra had a warm and loving personality. But the villagers of Twilight Grow soon scorned and banished the young girl from their village.

Luckily for Sierra, she was taken in by a kind young couple. And they soon began to love Sierra as their own little girl.

The main goal of the story will be Sierra gathering souls, to make her own soul whole again. To start off Sierra will only be able to control one soul at a time. Possible once she gets better at handling the souls she will be able to start to posses more then one soul at a time.

Any soul Serria that posses will give her, their looks and their abilities. Depending on who possese her the people of the land will react to her differently.

There will be a limited areas of fighting, cause I don't like rpgm3 battle system but think it is nesscary for some of the souls.

To finish up these are the souls that I have come up with so far for Sierra:
Warrior Monk, Knight, Sorceress, Elf, Samurai, Nun, Folk Hero, Baker, and a dog.

So... not bad. For a basic setup, it's not bad at all. Interestingly it sounds a lot like Naruto Uzumaki's backstory and I'm wondering whether you might have been inspired by that?

Sierra already sounds like a very likable character. Do everything you can to make sure she doesn't become just a plot device because I think a lot of enjoyment is going to be in getting to know her as a character.

Still extremely vague on what gameplay will be like. So we know the basic goal as it sets itself up at the beginning, but what's the nature of the quest? Can you go anywhere you want (something that actually sounds feasible since you said there are few battles and a ton of souls to find)? Are you led from place to place? Do other characters join you for gameplay purposes?

What do the souls that you recover do?, besides changing how people react to you? Do they change your battle character, do they give you skills to solve puzzles, are they just there for the story and aesthetic purposes? What does being a baker do? What if you're wielding more than one at once?

Also, because I think a rich "system" for supernatural elements gives a setting a lot of depth (which probably explains my current addiction to Ars Magica), I'm curious: what is it that losing one's soul does to a person? It sounds as if it just changes them physically and allows them to accept new ones. Can you explain how it works in your world? Or is this something the players find out along with Sierra much later on?

but what's the nature of the quest?
Basically Sierra is trying to find her place in the world, where she is accepted by society.

Can you go anywhere you want (something that actually sounds feasible since you said there are few battles and a ton of souls to find)? Are you led from place to place?
I am aiming for the player to be able to free roam the land. There will be hints as to where to go but I hope to leave it up to the player how fast they want to progress the story. Certain areas will only be accessable with certain souls. Plus this also depends on the limits of RPGM3. I might have to break it down into chapters.

Do other characters join you for gameplay purposes?
As of right now I plan to have two other characters that might join the party. It just depends on how they work into the story.

What do the souls that you recover do?, besides changing how people react to you? Do they change your battle character, do they give you skills to solve puzzles, are they just there for the story and aesthetic purposes? What does being a baker do? Each soul will give you special abilities both in and out of battles. And when Sierra is taken over by a soul her character model will change.
The Baker will at one point be able to open a bakery in a town. But she also gives Sierra the ability to roam around the land without being harrassed by people.
When wielding more then one soul, there will be a dominate Soul that is in charge. There will be switching points around to allow the player to make another soul dominate.

Do everything you can to make sure she doesn't become just a plot device because I think a lot of enjoyment is going to be in getting to know her as a character.
You will discover more about Sierra by using the other Souls.

Or is this something the players find out along with Sierra much later on?
I don't really have this figured out yet. But I plan on having the player find out what happens to a person when they loose there soul. As I said still working on it lol.

So the souls that aren't "dominant" are going to be left out of the party? Or are they going to be like party members, where you're controlling them from the outside? Because RPGM3 actually has an option where the player can change who the party leader is. Though I don't know if you can check who the leader is with events.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

They aren't going to be left out of the party. They'll be in it. You'll act like anyother party member in battle. I'll just have to make separate event that let's you switch who the leader is inorder to keep track of the leader's variable.

Ran into a minor problem. RPGM3 is posing too many promblems and restrictions. So I'm transfering the game over to RPGM2.

Everything you mentioned in this thread is completely doable using RM3 and, while it would take a lot of event placement, would also not be incredibly difficult. If you need help with something, ask!

That being said, I'm sure you were trying to do lots of other things in your game that you haven't mentioned yet, and RM3 can really feel cloistering sometimes. I'm looking at switching over to primarily using XP myself. RM2 is an awesome tool but you're going to have to do a ton of work to get anything done; it's a bold system to take on for your first release!

Well it isn't a first release for me. I did release a demo called Sword of Vengeance for RM2. My main concern for RM3 is that it only has 100 charcter slots. I had only 3 small areas made and had already used 25 of those slots. Cause the Souls took up 10 slot themselves. I also have a better understanding of variables in RM2. For some reason I get totatlly confused with them I RM3

Oops, sorry, I do remember the SoV threads and I'm not quite sure why I forgot that you made that.

The 100-character limit in RM3 is one of those things you can't get around (unless you make "common" areas for common functions)... if you wanted a lot of people to populate your world for flavor, or have some kind of gameplay mechanic to them, you're probably better off with 2... or for that matter, 1, XP, or VX

EDIT: Hey, while we're at it, mind if I use your thread to take a potshot at RPG Maker 3? WHY did they have to make every single person created have slots for skills, equipment, stats, and all that jazz, thus necessitating the 100 character limit? Why couldn't they also allow you to make "walking event models" that looked like "People" but were just Event Blocks (which are limited to 3000 IIRC)? WHY?!?

lol go for it. Cause it is very annoying that 100 character limit.
