It's funny, we had all those years of decrying EA as the impending death of creativity in the industry. Then a year or two ago, there's a sudden paradigm shift, and EA's turning out interesting and edgy games (if not always good) like Dead Space or Mirror's Edge, and Activision strives to annihilate decency at every turn.

Now a completely original movie that just used the game engine instead of studio CGI for a couple bucks, maybe. A collection of the cutscenes that are already in the game for $20 - $30? Good luck with that, Bobby. And then he thinks people would also pay to see it in theaters. Somebody forgot his meds this morning.

I know, it's ridiculous. Paying $20 to see a bunch of cutscenes in a theater when people already think movies are too expensive? Lulz.

I'm suprised Perv hasn't shown up in this thread yet, too.

He's very skilled in the art of hyperbole, which is probably why he's so popular for news articles.

Though, I'm kind of curious if this means they'll be omitting the option to 'unlock' cut-scenes (for viewing outside of gameplay) in games as a means to improve the success of this idea.

The only video game cut scenes I would pay to see editted together in theaters is The Subspace Emmisary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

                Snake Eater maybe.

I think, if we were to really watch game cutscenes without the intervening actual game bits, Ebert might have more fuel for his fire. Independent of the hours (or in a Metal Gear Solid game's case, minutes) of non-cutscene gameplay, a lot of the emotional resonance (in the few games that can even muster than, most either fail completely or don't even bother to try) and overall plot significance would be lost.

I picked the title because it's something another grade-A asshole, Uwe Boll, says about himself. So I'm pretty much comparing the two to each other. Don't make the mistake of actually taking it seriously....

That's a good point, a lot of stuff in a cutscene won't mean anything without context.

I think that was called Guitar Hero. And he IS the same guy who closed down shop at Red Octane once he decided he did not need them to make peripherals for the GH games any more.
