    i need a PC RPGmaker....

I'm planning on getting a laptop soon. I need one that runs a PC RPG maker. The problem is, I don't know which one to get. I know my choicer are between RPG maker XP and RPG maker VX. Does anybody know which one is superior in terms of:

    Battle System customization

    Cut Scene Editor

    Character Limit

These are the key factors in my decision. Any help would be great.

From those qualifications you've listed, I say they're both pretty much equal.

The battles are the only real difference, and it's a minor one. They're both handled in a first-person view, and the only difference is that RMXP gives you battle backgrounds and RMVX merely gives the swirled effect. Too see what I mean:
    RMXP Battle
    RMVX Battle

There's no storyteller feature in either. Cutscenes are handled the same way they're handled in almost every 2D RPG.

Character limit? Someone's been using RPGM3 too much.

It should be noted that both XP and VX include a special scripting system that allows you to highly customize just about everything, especially battle systems. In fact, if you wanted, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to give backgrounds to RMVX battles.

    Here's the trailers for each:
    RMXP
    RMVX
Don't worry, they're both fully in English. :P

Oh, it should be noted that RMXP doesn't include a world/field map feature by default. You'd have to import some graphics for that.

Oh, right. RMXP is $30, RMXP is $60.
Considering how similar they are in features, XP is the obvious better deal.

By the way, guys, I dunno when this happened, but IG Maker dropped in price. It was $90 before, wasn't it? It's $60, now. That actually makes it very tempting for me.

I never played VX but I also like that the events in XP give more freedom in creation and you can create some pretty cool stuff without any real scripting and just use the short script commands that you can insert into events if you are like me and don't understand the whole scripting thing.

There are also community websites where people will submit custom made scripts for stuff like Materia systems and whatnot for people who want those sort of things in their game. There are all kinds of scripts people submit like the party member change script which is one of the best.

Hmmmm, I suppose I'll go with XP. I like how you can have 2D character portraits in battle, which I find essential. I don't really like the idea of 1st person battles, because I want my characters to be visible.

            Oh well.

You can make a custom battle system. Lots of people have made battle system scripts you can use too.
