Most of these rip-offs sound like Dilbert Cartoons. The last one made me laugh.

this happens a lot when cashiers dont check returning merchandise to ensure its exactly whats supposed to be in there. the lack of card or concern means that other customers receive garbage in a box. because our poor quality control is known it means anyone could get away with this as there is no way of knowing for sure if its a scam or an error.

its difficult to prove that the customer is right, but by creating excess problems with poor managers then it makes the process much more difficult. i am surprised that these customers where bought off so cheaply. 25 bucks is nothing.

Sounds like someone's got a beef with Best Buy.

So all I need to do is buy a DS, take it out and fill the box with stones and get my money back?

Ah, the famous DS Rock Box story.

And I didn't notice how terrible Best Buy was with handling customers. At least Walmart gave a refund and a gift card to someone.

This happened to me at Best Buy when I tried to
buy a Nvidia 9600 GT. Inside was a crappy old ATI Radeon.

I tried to get my money back, but they insisted that
that was not what was in there and implied that I tried
to swap the real card with that one.

I said **** them and bought another video card somewhere else.

Tiger Direct, NewEgg and Fry's are the only places I'll buy
              computer parts from anymore.

              Again, **** Best Buy.

did you call and cancel the payment? i am thinking that i better open up everything that has value before i leave a store, and do so right in front of someone just so i dont get screwed.

id say that this wouldnt happen if stores just didnt accept refunds but that still wouldnt stop dishonest employees from swapping electronics for stones. i know some people whove stole all kinds of stuff from their work and i can see how easy it is to make a switch.

as a business you have to either take precautions to ensure what is going out is whats really going out (impossible), or accept that there will be loss in this manor. to deny your customers a return, even if it appears fraudulent is destructive to the business. so yes, caciss, you can get a free ds but its up to the store to keep tract (loss prevention teams) in case you return again with the same possible scam.

It was bought in store with cash.

I always NOW open **** before I leave,
but I feel I shouldn't be required to have to open
stuff before I leave the store as I should get what I
payed for in the first place.

                  Stupid thieving employees.

at the very least i pay certain purchases with my credit card. even if i have cash to buy it outright, ill pay with a cc so i have a record of it. i keep receipts in a box just in case something happens i wont get screwed for the no receipt bs. anyone notice how receipts seam to fade much faster now?
