Is anyone planning on getting this? I'm hoping it does reasonably well (yeah, it won't go gangbusters...my expectations are reserved) if that means even the slightest chance of a Skies of Arcadia sequel.

Re: Valkyria Chronicles 2
I'm picking it up. I'm awful at finding time to play handheld games, so it'll probably be a couple years before I finish it. I'm hoping for a VC3 on consoles with, please lord, online play options. So you're a fish out of water...
Keep swimming.

Re: Valkyria Chronicles 2
Already own it, played it. Its very good, faithful to the original in every way(Including long load times if you don't install!)
And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope

Re: Valkyria Chronicles 2
I picked it up and have been playing it frequently over the past week.
I'm surprised at how much was retained from the console version, and the limitations and tweaks they've made to the combat system are pretty intuitive and blend into the gameplay very well. If you played the first game at all, you should have no problem adapting.
I'm still near the beginning but the characters and story seem about on par with the first. I didn't consider the characterizations to be the series' strong-point anyway, so for me they behave a little too earnestly to be taken seriously, but I'm not sure a "serious" tone would do the game any favors.
As it is, they give you plenty of optional background for the characters you use, adding some depth, but if you just want to get down to brass tacks and smash some rebels, they let you do that too.
I wasn't sure about the new Armor Tech class, but there's something very gratifying about smashing a spiked wrench into an opposing sniper's mouth. So you're a fish out of water...
Keep swimming.

Re: Valkyria Chronicles 2
I'd agree that it's "high school anime hijinks"..., but I guess my reaction is that it's only slightly more irritating than VC1.
The first game takes a pretty dark turn, I don't know if that's the case with this one or not, but the opening chapters of VC1 were kinda embarrassing to watch with anyone else in the room.Last edited by Shard; 09-14-2010, 07:01 PM.So you're a fish out of water...

Re: Valkyria Chronicles 2
I like to use the Armor Techs as the tip of the spear. In effect, they act like mini-tanks, brushing off damage, obliterating lesser enemies with one swipe, removing mines and repairing fortifications, going places where vehicles can't, and all at a cheaper CP than actual tanks.
I've had one AT hold off 3 shocktroopers. In fact, if you can line up two enemies in a row, the AT can stand still at the end of their turn, while you wait for the AI to shoot their own allies in the back.
I don't know if this game's easier, or I'm just better, but I was constantly scumming it with C and D ranks before, and I've never gotten lower than a B this time (admittedly, I'm still in March).Last edited by Shard; 09-15-2010, 02:59 PM.So you're a fish out of water...
