Jehuty is buying a new computer(HALP)

    Title.

My hardware knowledge is, at best, Above average; but this leaves much to be desired.

I decided to purchase a pre-built from newegg.ca, I am not comfortable building my own computer and the tech stores here charge 100+ dollars to build.

    Spending Limit: 1400 dollars

    Choices so far:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16883229197

    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16883227248

    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16883229170

That said, I came here, knowing some of you are Computer savvy. Building my own isn't completely out of the question still, so I'm asking for input/opinions on what to do.

    And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope

Why are you opposed to building your own? At $1400, you're getting up there in terms of high-endness, so you'll be able to save a lot of money.

Its really not that hard at all. Can you build Legos? Really not much harder than that.

EDIT: Quickly looking up the parts on newegg itself, I find that I could build this model (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16883229170) for about $1000. That's a 20% markup. You'll also have each part's individual warranty which is generally 3 years, instead of the 1 year warranty that system comes with.

If you're totally opposed to building your own still, your best bet is to hit Best Buy/other stores that sell pre-builts and look for closeout sale.

Lack of tools and knowledge mostly. Bestbuy/Future shop where i live are obscenely priced (An equivalent to the above links would cost 2000+).

All you need is a Philips head screw driver. You could buy for about $2, but I wager you have one in the house somewhere.

For $1400 you can build an amazingly kickass computer dude.

If that is the case, you'd have to pick out parts for me. I'm not adept at assembling parts from a list(Nor know which is better and why)

I'll compose a build for you by Sunday. How much do you want to spend? Do you need a monitor? OS? Do you want a Blu Ray player? Do you care about audio? Or do you just want raw gaming speed?

Monitor no(i have 2), OS yes, Blue ray Not really(I have a PS3), Audio notreally

Raw gaming/video power is a must. This is to last me a few years(Crysis 2, FF14, and other intensive games)

                Thank you Sampson.

                  Comments:

If you want to reduce the cost, go for less RAM. 4gigs of that speed should be fairly adequate, and you can always add more later, just wanted to stay around budget.

As for OS: whats your situation? Is there a reason you can't use the OS of your old computer?

This thing should be an utter beast when built.

If you want to upgrade to Windows 7, it'll cost you $120. Unless you can get a student version somehow, which is much cheaper.

If you need to get that and stay at $1400, drop the ram to this:

The 1st and 3rd rigs you posted aren't worth it, the HD 5770 is way overpriced on those machines.

                          Get the HD 5830.

Sampson's rig set up is quite nice. Pretty damn good compute for that cost. That case is kind of expensive though, you can get good cheap cases if you just watch the deals. I got mine which was originally $70 for 15.99 w/free shipping just by watching the newegg deals.

I like good cases because they generally have better airflow (or more slots for fans so that they could have better airflow) which keeps the PC cooler and cooler PCs run better and faster. Cheap cases are often made of garbage plastic, too, and tend to break much easier. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend a case priced under $50 normally.
