    post control

    hey valk

i think that the people who post threads should have some control over them

so i think it would be a good idea to allow people to close there own threads and delete replys frow there threads.

this would be helpfull if someone was trying to derail a topic or if someone changed the topic altogether

    Could also be abused!

It's the drawback to being in Public.

Folks always come in and start Mooing like a Cow or something - when you distinctly wanted to make more Ostrich-Like noises.

That's why we have Moderators and a way to "Report" posts if you feel they break any rules. They likely wont get deleted just because you don't like them, there usually has to be some sort of Terms of Service breach or something.

Of course, it's not for me to decide...

    MOO!

If you think a thread you made is being derailed, or if you have a legitimate reason to have posts within it edited or deleted, feel free to ask an admin to look at it, and if it's warranted, one of us would be more than happy to fulfill your request.

i was just thinking it would be better if you could keep control of your own threads and close them if they are getting to off topic

No. it absolutely WOULD be abused, by everyone. Not everyone is going to like every reply their topic gets, but this is a discussion forum, and everyone needs to accept and deal with that.

Being able to close your on topics would be nice. But the power to delete other people's posts isn't a good idea.

              Re: post control

Sometimes they go off-topic when they've run their course, and the thread actually becomes more fun and popular because of it.

Closing those immediately would make a lot of people mad.

I don't want people being worried if posts they make will survive or not depending on the topic creator's mood. I don't want people worrying if a post they make may annoy or anger the topic creator and get the topic closed.

It goes against the free expression I try and foster here.

Yeah, I know what you guys mean. I seriously believe Post really needs to control the quality of their cereals.

If you see a topic being derailed, and think there's still good discussion to be had about the original topic, just say so in the thread. Easy enough.

Here, let's give it a try:

What are you talking about Duel? Post makes great cereals! My favorite is Fruity Pebbles, which incidentally tastes just like real pebbles! I know because I ate a few of them when I was six years old.

You ate Pebbles when you were six?

No, no, I ate actual pebbles, pebbles made of rock, i.e. the ground-up version of Mr. Slate.

See, Fruity Pebbles were the modern prehistoric version of Soylent Green.

As this man says. A forum like this had no need for extra thread control, the admins are always keeping a sharp eye. This isn't GameSpot/GameFAQs.

I agree. Too many people would start deleting posts of people they don't like out of spite, or delete things people say they don't like. Probably would cause problems similar to negative rep.

People need to learn once they post something on a messageboard, they don't own it. Anyone can derail it.

but if the admins asked the reson for deleteing the message and could overturn the decision if its reson wasnt good enough it could make the pav a better place

didnt know this would be so contriversial

That wouldnt improve this place. it would still interfere with the whole mood of the Pavilion, and run our admins ragged checking the stuff.
