    Create a Flash RPG

    What options are there if you want to make a Flash RPG? RPG Maker only generates games for Windows, and I haven't seen any working exporters to Flash. There is also an issue with the RTP graphics license, which states that those graphics and resources may only run on the RTP runtime. And so if someone should work on a Flash exporter, we can't use any of the RTP resources .

    Because of that I'm currently working on a product that makes it easy and fast to create RPG's for Flash. I'm doing this together with Amaranth games (you might know then from the Aveyond RPG series). As the product is still in development, I have some questions for anyone who wants to make a Flash RPG.

    You would help me out a lot if you send me an email at koen@koonsolo.com, so we can have a little chat. This way I get more insight into what your needs are for creating an RPG for Flash. This way I hope provide a solution for that in the near future .

    My advice, if you want to sell it, is to make something that does not require owning adobe's overpriced software, but still exports swf files!

                I am very intrigued koonsolo but since you're new I think you're going to get a better response by just asking us straight out in this topic.

                I know I'd be more likely to answer your questions that way.

                  Flex can compile AS3 to SWF, and it's open source. So I will probably use that .

                  Ok, that's fair. In retrospect, asking to mail me as a first post does seem a bit like spam doesn't it . So, who here wants to create an RPG for Flash? If so, what's holding you back to do it now with the current tools, and what are you struggling with (technical things, art, music, ...)? If you finish your game, where are you going to put it: on you website, on facebook, on Flash portals like Kongregate or Newgrounds?

                    I've actually been thinking about producing games, not necessarily RPGs with Flash. I'm decent with a slew of programming languages.

                    I'm not at all interested in a "Maker" game for Flash. If I wanted to do something right, I'd just start from scratch.

                    The only thing I struggle with is motivation and procrastination.

                      I wouldn't know how to create anything in Flash. I prefer makers anyway, since they provide graphics and sound for you. All I have to do is program.

                        I haven't read through this yet, but it looks informative.
                        I would like to try using Gamemaker before learning something new.

                            It looks neat. I like how the layers are automatic, as switching between them in RMXP/VX is a bit annoying.

                            That said, I hope you guys intend to have your own graphics in that thing. I think Enterbrain might be knocking on your doors if you release an editor with their graphics. :P

                              What I think would be really, really hot is if you could have paint tools right inside the tile editor.

                              If you could zoom in a bit, and make a few pixel adjustments, change a colour, etc. and it would instantly take effect on all the instances of that tile...
