Re: Bomb-Sniffing Dog Suffers PTSD
It is pretty sad.
But I'd be a lot sadder to hear about dozens of civilians or soldiers dying because, in the interest of protecting animals from human-instigated trauma, they decided not to employ a bomb-sniffing dog that could have detected a bomb.

Gonna do my best not to derail the topic with a long-winded argument, but as horrible as war is, would you rather see innocent people be repressed or killed by greedy, ruthless dictators and warlords?Originally posted by Red Dragon View PostTo tell the truth, I'd rather not have to send either into war.

I don't want to derail the topic either, but what you just listed are excuses for war, not reasons for it. If Pol Pot had had oil, we would have gone after him, but we didn't... and he killed millions.Originally posted by Wavelength View PostGonna do my best not to derail the topic with a long-winded argument, but as horrible as war is, would you rather see innocent people be repressed or killed by greedy, ruthless dictators and warlords?
Sorry Cambodia, try having something we need next time!Last edited by Ωbright; 08-03-2010, 05:40 PM.

Totally agree that they should be the reasons, not excuses. We should have threatened the life and power of Pol Pot and his "revolutionaries" the moment they got into power. It would be nice if we did the same against the psychopaths in Pyongyang.Originally posted by Ωbright View PostI don't want to derail the topic either, but what you just listed are excuses for war, not reasons for it. Re: Bomb-Sniffing Dog Suffers PTSD
Eh, I don't think it's simply a matter of oil. The Khmer Rouge came to power right around the time America was getting sick of Vietnam, and Cambodia's right next door. So there likely there was scant domestic interest in getting involved there as well, beyond the military actions that Nixon was already taking/had already took there. Possibly whatever long-term strategy he had might have worked if he didn't make the mistake of Watergate, but then again it might not.Originally posted by Wavelength View PostTotally agree that they should be the reasons, not excuses. Re: Bomb-Sniffing Dog Suffers PTSD
Almost any animal can suffer from PTSD, including iguanas and snakes.
If bombs are such a problem, then perhaps it would be wise to remove people from situations where they pose threats?
Regardless, the advances made in robotics over the last few years will make bomb-sniffing dogs obsolete before long.
His new pledge is to have them out by August 31, 2010, but even that plan will still leave at least 50,000 behind in Iraq AND the role of the soldiers leaving will be replaced by private contractors(more accurately referred to as mercenaries).Originally posted by Sampson View PostI like the fact that you never hear about how Obama lied and broke his pledge to have the troops out of Iraq in 16 months.

Re: Bomb-Sniffing Dog Suffers PTSD
Well, I guess it's like this: if war-related PTSD can do this much damage to a dog, imagine the horrors it can inflict on a person who completely understands what's going on and has to carry its weight for their whole lives.Originally posted by 162 View PostDo you all wanna know what the sad thing is? I didn't foresee this as becoming some war argument. (I should've, though...)
Mostly, I posted this for the sake of the dog.
I do feel really sorry for Gina, obviously she didn't deserve it... it's just that I don't really know what else to say about it. What exactly did you want to discuss about the dog?
