Good time to be a fan of Ring! wut wut

On its release in Japan, Ringu (‘The Ring’) heralded a hugely popular new horror style. Successfully blending science fiction and the supernatural to chilling effect, the film’s story interweaves the ‘urban myth’ of a cursed videotape with the mysterious death of a psychic girl.
This in-depth companion to The Ring examines the phenomenon from the original novels, through their film adaptations and remakes, including the blockbuster movie starring Naomi Watts. Placing the films in their cultural context and examining their cross-cultural appeal, this is the definitive guide to The Ring in all its incarnations.
Finally, a Region 1 box set of the original Japanese releases of Ring, Ring 2, Ring Ø and even Rasen (aka "Spiral"). Like The Ring Two, this box set also has a release date of August 23, but you can pre-order now from amazon.com. Hopefully the films will receive more than the bare-bones treatment given the 2003 release of Ring...

Don't really know why there's a standard version and an unrated version. The unrated version of the Grudge was Shimizu's own cut that was shown in Japan, so that could be the case here. I doubt it will have my ideal ending though (Rachel dumps Aiden in the well and jumps off a cliff!). Oh well. As eh-ish as this was (I think Rings was great though, and totally made the Ring worth buying again ) I'll be buying this.
What's the deal with unnecessary unrated DVDs?

The conclusion of Suzuki's Ring trilogy is a highly cerebral metaphysical thriller--one that once again turns the story inside out in a self-referential swirl not unlike the one that gives rise to consciousness itself.
Samara Comes to figure form at last in one ultimate box! 'THE RING' SPOILERS WITHIN

The Set will feature Samara herself in full figure form with Flexible hair for a variety of poses.

The set will also come with 2 bases, that's right I said 2!

First is the infamous well base where Samara emerges, and second will be the Television set where she enters the world to claim her victims. The TV base will feature videotapes and a decal on the screen that shows the well.

Best of all the figure will seperate at the waist so you can choose to have a full figure of Samara, or bisect her, and have her emerging from either the TV or the Well!

NECA has really hit a homerun with this one, and fan buzz has already begun.

No details on a release date yet but we'll post updates as soon as they're available.

I think of all this stuff I'm most excited for the book and figure. I mean seriously, that sounds like one amazing action figure.

Is something like THE RING really that deserving of this much attention and treatment? I mean it was good but as far as sci-fi/fantasy pop franchises go it was no Lord of the Rings or The Matrix...

Please don't oversaturate us with this. The Ring(or more accurately, Ringu) was the first horror movie in years to actually freak me out after watching it. Same with Silent Hill. Slow down with those things, they all need to be savored like fine wine.

It was a bigger movie in Japan than either of those series. So yeah, I would think so.

And having been a fan for many years now (three, ), it's just exciting to see all this stuff finally getting to us fans.

I wish the Ring was originally a Bollywood film.

Battle Royale now tell me something about this cause i heard it's really violent.
There is one thing that pretty much disturbes me in an SRPG....

                      Maronakins.

Eh, there's much more violent stuff out there. But this is all violence done to and by 14-year old Japanese children trapped on a jungle island, so...

That was so off topic it made me pregnant.

Seriously, though, I keep away from Ringu at all times because it's such an apparently good horror film.

The film itself isn't so bad. The manga and book are way better and way gorier, I think. Comparing stepping on nuts to stepping on a mouse... that always makes me squirm.
The only movie that's really ever made me uncomfortable, violence wise, would have to be Suicide Club. Some moments in that movie are jaw dropping. Like the montage of all the people killing themselves, I swear I forgot to breathe. Christ.

If some girl came crawling out of my TV, Id freak out at first, then I would lay the smackdown on her.

Just like in all those japanese flash animations about that girl.
