Re: Rpg maker 2 or rpg maker 3?
I just want something that doesnt bore me, lets me be creative but isnt overly complex.
The main thing that made me quit all my games is i dont know a thing about making stats thus making the game too easy or hard.Last edited by simple man; 07-28-2010, 12:35 AM.Ga ga ga ga ga ga ga ga gao gai gar!

Go with 3, it's supposed to be easier. And 2 is a very very complex game. It may give you more freedom, but it is harder to work with than the original. Also, it's on one of those damn blue CDs too, so depending on what kind of PS you're using you might not be able to get it to work.

BUT - I found 3 to be too basic and limiting!
Nothing like this would be even remotely possible in 3:

That game is in the RPGM2 Garbage Games section. It's "The Adventures Of A Very Naughty Cow!"
Also, have a look at The VFX Editor Guide link in my signature before you make a final decision.
2 has tons more options, and yes - implementing such a customizable system naturally makes for a more complex way of doing things.
But I never found it to be *too* complex, and most of what I set out to do was possible (some required a little compromise, but I still was able to make something close to what I had in mind).
With 3, very little of what I wanted to do was even possible. No matter how much I compromised! If you like the sort of game 3 was geared to make, then that's the one for you! But if you want to be able to customize your game to your liking, then you have to go with 2 (and be prepared to work a little harder!).

Pretty damn complex. I don't use RPGM2. I use 3 for its simplicity. And despite its innate limitations, I find ways getting around them... Like with reflect spells (or an ersatz copy anyway). I just make it a speed boost with an added immunity effect.Snake?...Snake?SNAKE!!!

Simple Man, I say with 100% certainty that 3 suits you a lot better than 2 would.
You should be able to find it Used at most GameStops or all good gaming specialty stores, and you can find it easily online.

As complex as you want it to be! Or as simple. As with all things - you get out of it what you put in to it!Originally posted by simple man View PostRodak,
How complex is making cut scenes,
How complex is making items?
Modifying existing items is a snap. Cut scenes take practice but once you understand the flow, it's quite easy. Check out the opening of Videogamedrome if you get the chance. That's a wonderful piece, and really simple to do. Compared to some other ones I have made.
None of my games / demos have passwords (if the first version of The Clean Underwear Quest still has one, let me know! I can remove it (my copy has an in game character who tells you the password) but I thought I updated it to be open.
If you have faith in your abilities, I say Go For It!
Or better yet, since neither 2 nor 3 is very popular overall in the gaming world - just buy whichever one turns up in your budget
It's highly unlikely a used game store will have both in stock.
Has anybody made any decent mini games in 3?
They are one of my favorite things to make in 2. But a few years ago (when I was last active here) the idea seemed to be so limited as to be almost pointless. I remember a "Dating Game" somebody made with Storyteller, but that's all.
In RPGM 2 I have made entire Puzzle Rooms, and even Badly Hidden Island which has a multitude of mini games and nothing else.
I'd love to see 2 get an update someday. I doubt anything else will ever convince me to buy a PS3!

Re: Rpg maker 2 or rpg maker 3?
Someone made a racing game with RPGM3, taking advantage of the fact that certain characters have different running speeds. You could only race against the time, but it was a creative idea. But for reasons I forget, it didn't rate too well (glitchy, maybe).
As for RPGM2, it is HARD. A lot of your time using it will be spent just learning how it works. If you've never used an RPGM, RPGM2 is not a good place to start."What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

Yup - we posted almost simultaneously!Originally posted by Draygone View PostSee my above post.
But... I did start with 2, and Loved it!
Of course, I had done a little programming before finding it. But I hadn't touched it for years when I stumbled across RPGM2.
Of course, I don't know simpleman's abilities - but if something simple is desired... yeah. I'd have to suggest 3 then.
2 is not as Hard as people say, but it's a Far Cry from simple!
EDIT - Another Simultaneous Post!!
Woof.
Thanks Valk, I'll look for that! Always interested in how far these things can be pushed
