    OneManga is closing... :sadfaceemoticon

Well, my site is shutting its doors and now I don't know where to go for my free translated Manga reads! Anybody got any helpful hints/tips/tricks that doesn't involve not reading manga?

Try buying it. Or are you going to be like the retards at their forum who are now calling for boycotts because the manga creators who almost always struggle just to make a living want to protect their creations, and their jobs?

It's not like they can really boycott something they weren't supporting in the first place.

Looks like it's the final chapter for OneManga.

This. It takes a lot of time and effort to produce manga, and the creators deserve to be supported, as does the American industry that translates and distributes it. It's not perfect, but most manga make the trip overseas unscathed. There might be some cases where the price might be a little unreasonable ($14 for a volume of Berserk?!), but for the most part manga is affordable enough.

There's some that might argue that scanlations are important because they allow people to read manga that would otherwise never get licensed, but that's a bit of a distraction. By and large, people read scanlations of popular material that's already been licensed, such as One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, etc.

See, that doesnt bother me. Look at what a shorter TPB from a US comic company costs. Typically around $20.

I dunno, I usually see them around the $10-14 range, depending on the length. But I can almost see paying that much, since most manga is B&W and most American comics are printed in color and use better paper stock.

I dunno, I'm used to paying between $10-$15 for trade paperbacks of varying lengths. The real bothersome exception here seems to be Stephen King-based trades, cause they haven't released trade paperbacks yet and want me to pay $25-$30 for trade hardcovers. I want to spend LESS on collections, not the same or more, Marvel.

As to the actual topic at hand, pay for your expensive manga, Marty!

Don't read manga. All the pictures you guys like to use, really ought to be one of Ogre from the Revenge of the Nerds franchise. Somehow I just feel like he's needed here.

They're really testing the manga publishers, arent they? it's been their last week for um, over a week now.

It might not be available in NA, or simply hasn't been licensed.

I'm reading Claymore, and I happily buy every volume that gets released here. Online scanlators are still far ahead of said releases.

Maybe, but like I said, I guarantee you most people are reading stuff that's been licensed. Like Claymore!

I read some scanlations too. But if it's licensed, I won't. I'll buy it, release scheule and my own laziness be damned. I just like reading actual books too much. reading scanlations is actually pretty annoying. You have to deal with a website interface that may suck, may hit you with ads constantly that talk to you about stuff while you're trying to read, or you download them a zip after hunting around for the correct website.

and then, you get something that's full of errors, often painfully obvious ones. there will be translation notes all over because the translator doesnt know how how write well enough to explain things through dialogue, there will sometimes be in-jokes tossed in between panels, or even shout-outs to other people. before the comic even starts, you sometimes have to skip by several different scans of the cover, the outside sleeve that a lot of books come with, the BLANK pages at the start of the book... who the **** scans blank pages? I've seen some translators get the entire point of what they're translating wrong, and then add in filler pages to their package explaining why their wrong interpretation of the story is right, and why you're an idiot for thinking otherwise. I've seen some translators insult the mangaka between panels, or even run commentary between the panels. That's annoying, and ruins the experience.

I'll gladly wait for a professionally translated book that makes sense.

I've also been punished for watching fansubs by the fansubber running his own color commentary inbetween lines of dialogue. It certainly reminds you you're not consuming a professional product.

I love Otakings long rant on modern anime fansubs. Hes right about everything. They do suck ass. The whole thing is like 5 parts long. You should watch them all if you havent already. Its pretty funny how crappy some of the things he looks at are.
