I forget what the whole controversy was before this game was released (it was gonna be cancelled, and then EA picked it up or something, if memory serves...kinda like the video game equivalent of Wilco, it would seem), but I played the demo a few days ago, and quite enjoyed it.
The hack and slash gameplay mechanics are pretty straightforward, but at least judging from the demo, it's worth playing for the quirky humor alone. There were a few clunkers in the 20 minutes or whatever I played, but most of it forced a smile onto my face.
Even though I've only seen very little of The Tick, this is what the main character reminded me of. I'm willing to spend the $15 on this, because the strange and obscure humor are basically the same type I would include if I ever made a game of this type...actually, my unsubmitted contest entry comes close to this slightly (in terms of dialogue).
