Kentucky too now.
I think driving and texting is dumb, I've done it before, send a text or two. But I know people that literally carry on conversations via text while driving. And are all over the road trying to do it.Last edited by American Hero; 07-19-2010, 03:36 PM.________________

Re: Textin at da' Wheel
As often as I tell people I don't do it, every great once in a while I get a text while driving down the road that requires a more or less immediate response, and I even PM'd someone at the Pav once.
It's still incredibly unsafe, but I'm a hypocrite apparently. =V"Mindless killing doesn't do a lot for me anymore." - Sampson

Re: Textin at da' Wheel
It's illegal in Cali to text and talk without a hands free device, but people still do it all the time. Just one of those laws they make just to keep some people happy that it's a law, but it's not really enforced.
I'll still answer the phone while driving my own car, but my phone sucks too much to be able to text even when I'm not driving. I don't ever use the phone while driving my work truck during the day, because that can actually get me fired since the company is getting more strict with policies.

As of July 1st, Georgia also got the anti-texting law, as well as the one banning the under 18 set from cell phone talk. Objectively, I think both are good ideas. Subjectively, I still text and websurf while driving. It's hard to resist."Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

Re: Textin at da' Wheel
I think they should just cut this crap out and do things more effectively by making the driving tests a LOT harder. Then more people (read: idiots) would fail the tests and be off the road. That would make the roads safer, and maybe even cut down on gasoline use, which is good for the environment. More people walking would mean more exercise and less fat asses, which would cut health care costs.
I don't mind the law itself, but it's probably not going to make much difference. People already drink and drive, and use cell phones, put on makeup and crap, eat/drink, and who knows what else. At the very least, putting into place some stricter penalties to punish selfish idiots with no concept of public safety might be effective, like suspending their license for a year or two. Maybe an extended period of relying on public transportation or carpooling might train some of them. Those who don't get trained, well at least they're not behind the wheel.Last edited by orius; 07-19-2010, 11:53 PM.
