    **** retirement

Does anyone else have this view? They say Americans are living longer, but sure as hell doesn't seem that way from my anecdotal evidence. My blood pressure is 150/100 w/out beta blockers and I have chest pain if I don't take the meds, so I'll be happy if I hit 60. **** saving for a day that probably won't come, I'm not happy NOW.

Does anyone else feel this way? Just wondering if it's just me. When I hear people talk about saving about retirement and whatnot, I just think "whatever." I actually have a bit saved in my 401k (which is currently worth table scraps), but it just seems pointless.

Does seem like a gamble, but what happens if you live to be 90 or so?

My take on retirement - "If the world doesn't end in 2012, I AM F***ED!!!"

13 years ago, I bought a HUD Home which ruined me financially. I owe more than it's worth. No chance of ever getting out of this mess...

I guess it all depends on where you see yourself when you're sixty.

IMO, retirement is an excuse to be lazy for the rest of your life. And many people fall victim to it, only to later realize their mistake and be stuck bagging groceries when their retirement plan falls through.

Also, with baby boomers sucking up every last ounce of America's retirement funding, I doubt any of our generation will get to see our own share unless we hoard our own money.

My plan? Teachers that get to 30 years are almost guaranteed a huge retirement. I'm going to get there, find a part time/seasonal job doing what I love, and travel in my off time.
          ...and that's why.

Too much stress in today's world to retire in old age.

Well... I guess I'll make them very happy then!

Have a backup plan in case whatever locale where you are working experiences "municide". That will be most of the U.S. over the course of this decade, if not sooner.

I guest you're right. In Quebec all our parent ( we call them ''Baby-Boomer'') had all heritage all place it in a RRSP and we got nothing . Maybe it's same for the English Canada and the USA

Didn't the idea of Medicare, retirement, etc. start around the time when the expected age of death was around 60-70?

So they never really expected you to hold on to any benefits for very long anyhow.

Most people aren't satisfied by a retirement that has them sitting at home doing nothing, anyways. Many people use retirement as a way to let them work part-time instead of full-time or as a way to let them explore career interests that they didn't get to earlier in life. The idea of an older person staying inactive and out of work is quickly becoming outdated regardless of the economic situation.

Instead, younger people are staying inactive and out of work because they can't find any jobs.

I'm one of them. I'm glad I have savings and mommy and daddy's roof to live under. There's people my age without either of these things that are homeless.
