spirit, here's the thing. You were not around when simple man arrived, but his first x amount of posts mirrored yours to a large extent (although, it deeply pains me to admit that his spelling and grammar was better than yours *shudder*). He was hazed unmercifully when he arrived, but he took his lumps, and actually gained something of a "cult following" here, if you could call it that.


It's not you, per se, spirit. It's just that any newbie who cannot string a coherent sentence together WILL be hazed, if not by myself, by John Mora or Irish Daigle or Ryner (who really seems to have fallen off in that department for the past few years). It's really just part of the process. Hell, Karr is still hazed for this, and he's been here longer than I have.


So don't take ALL of it personally. Aside from the jokes at your expense (and yes, I have made a number), try to take some of this as a learning experience. For every group of people, on the internet and in real life, there are some things people need to do to fit in or gain acceptance. Once you learn what these things are, you can choose to abide, or not.


There are other communities devoted to this hobby which have some members that believe that our little corner of the internet is full of elitist d-bags. While that may not be wholly untrue, I really do not think this community is exclusionist. But one of the prerequisites that about 99.7% of the regulars here have passed is having a firm grasp on the English language. Think about this: you have a desire to make video games, which is commendable. You obviously have a desire to express yourself in some way as well, be it through your posting here, or the games you are making, or the....ummm...*cough* voluminous amount of plays you've written.

Again, these are commendable things. But in order to express yourself to others in a manner where there can be a mutual dialogue, you really, seriously....and listen here, spirit....you REALLY, SERIOUSLY need to work on your writing skills. It's almost impossible to have a relevant discussion about anything if the other party needs to take extra time to try to decode what you are attempting to convey. Most people will just ignore you and not respond. I am taking quite a bit of time here, spirit, typing this right now, so I obviously am choosing not to ignore you in spite of your...ummm....less than satisfactory language skills (to put it in the nicest way that I possibly can).


And part of it is that I've been in a really ill-tempered mood as of late, and am partially taking it out on you. So again, do not take it personally. But try this little piece of advice...if your internet browser has a spell check, USE IT. If you are using Firefox, and there are red lines under every fifth word, try to figure out how to spell the words in question. Use capital letters when needed. Use punctuation. Yes, it will take more time for you to post what you have to say, but it will most definitely be worth your time if you want people to take you seriously.


Because as it is, we have a member here who has self-published two full-length novels (Irish Daigle, who is admittedly a grammar Nazi). So when you tell us you've written five plays, and are taking "head start" classes to prepare for college, and yet your posts seem to indicate the writing level of a fourth grader, it is genuinely difficult to take you seriously.

Sorry to further hijack AND double post, but I just spent a good portion of time writing that last bit before I'd even seen the recent spate of posts.


So, right in the beginning of that, I reference simple man. Right after I post, I read the rest of the topic, and spirit is already asking about how one becomes an admin (EDIT: asking TO become an admin). Prophetic, wasn't I?
