im tired of divorces being about destroying each other. i think any dirty laundry aired during a divorce should remain sealed, that way it would take the revenge out of doing just that, which is why these divorces are always so ugly. each side is trying to find the most damaging way they can get revenge. just split everything cleanly down the middle and walk away, no arguments, no exceptions, just a clean split. if they cant split it then burn it to the ground. or better yet just give them each a gun and have them walk 10 paces and fire, the one left standing gets everything.

to be honest i dont care what he thinks of any nationality. people always get so offended when someone is caught hating. its not like he somehow personaly affronted you or something. no one is loosing by his comments except him, and the sensationalism this kind of thing brings is really unwarranted. i bet if you taped the lives of everyone in hollywood you would find a huge amount that would end up making some kind of politically incorrect statement.

dont get me wrong, racism is bad, its a very poor view brought on by ignorance and intolerance, yet the fact that it gets so much air time just shows that we wont be able to go past it.

mels career sank with that brutal christ film he made. half way through i felt like i had just walked into a snuff film.

As a celebrity, he is giving people the right to see into a good deal of his personal life. Besides that, a racist and misogynist tirade like that is asking for a PR banhammer. If nobody got offended by anything not directed personally at them, BP wouldn't have such terrible PR. Racism is universally offensive, as is telling your girlfriend she's "going to get raped by a pack of n******." Mel's a celebrity and that's part of being one. Everything you do is put under scrutiny and he knows that for a fact. The divorce was just a side dish to this.

You know first I read the article and thought "wow he really is even a bigger s***head than I thought" but then I read Karr's post and... well, I think Karr's right.

Did he personally affront anyone? Not really, and no one would have been insulted (except for his ex) had RadarOnline not been the "first to bring it to you". He merely showed his true colors (which seem to be showing half the time anyway) in a particularly vitriolic moment.

I still get p***ed off at anyone who takes a shot at John Mayer for his n***** comment (in context, he made a fantastic point and just should have been careful not to use the word).

you really cant compare what bp is doing to this because bps actions (rather the lack) have caused a spill that does effect many of us. even still there are people out there who just dont care about bp. uttered profanities may offend our societal conscious, but on the whole they dont impact our lives - im not loosing sleep over it, not is anyone else but mel id wager.

the divorce was no side dish, its the entire reason any of this is out in the open. had it never happened then i doubt any of this would of been taped or at the least not publicly used.

a celebrity is nothing different then anyone else, they are just more well known then the rest of us. that they are human and make idiot remarks and spout ignorant profanity shows that he can maybe act, possibly make a film, but not much else. we hold these people on such high pedestals when they are not worth any different, and yet we become surprised when they show us that they are just as stupid as the rest of us or have some negative trait.

@wave: i think with regards to john, that people need to listen with the intent to understand context and intent. people hear that someone used the n word and find all kinds of negative connotations for it. language should never be taboo. lawyers are to blame for this, that whole profession is about warping words and putting some kind of spin on them.

Don't care. In most cases, it's still possible to enjoy the person's work without liking or respecting them as a person. Especially with Mel, since he's done some highly entertaining movies in his career.

Besides, the public can be pretty forgiving. Look at Alec Baldwin. People don't even seem to remember that he called his own bloody daughter a pig a couple years back. Which is about as reprehensible as it gets.

Karr, we aren't surprised that Mel said these things because he is a celebrity and we "put him on a pedestal." Its because he is a ****ing adult in the twenty first ****ing century. Racism is a terrible and warped mindset filled with hate and fear and only leads to violence. It should not be tolerated. He deserves some embarrassment and derision.
