The E74 error is covered even if the warranty has expired. Happened to the launch 360 that I gave to my friend.
Didn't know this. I'm gonna try a temporary solution and unplug everything, let it sit for a half hour, then plug everything back in. If I still get errors, I think I may just buy another console with newer parts.
I firmly believe my SNES will outlast all my other systems. My PS2 and original Xbox are both mothballed; neither broke completely, but both had serious issues that impeded performance. Meanwhile, a system I bought 15 years ago still runs pretty much fine and dandy, aside from the occasional blowing on a cartridge.
And since I think you have to pay Microsoft some amount of money (don't remember how much exactly, but believe it to be between $100-$150) for the replacement, maybe you should just go ahead and get new. Since you'd still have your hard drive, you can get an Arcade unit.
"Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."
Bought arcade bundle with Banjo-Kazooie and Viva Pinata (bottom of the game case is all busted).
Feels nicer. Even the disc drive seems sturdier than my other 360 was (it would occasionally get stuck, so I either had to click a button to close it and open again, or I had to press on the tray itself to nudge it open).
Enjoying updated Lost Planet 2!
*edit*
Now need to think of a way of disposing the old 'box.
