It's a long shot, but worth a try

    Hey guys and gals.

I haven't been on the pav a lot lately as I have been training for a long bike ride that's happening this weekend. It's the Ride To Conquer Cancer- a 200km (124 miles) bike ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls.

I signed up to do this last fall and have biked through some crazy weather conditions.... 6 degree temperatures, crazy winds, 34 degree extreme heat alert... all so I can stick it to cancer.

Every rider has to raise a minimum of $2,500 or they either a)don't ride or b)pay whatever's left to reach that minimum. As of this post, I have raised $907, or 36% of this minimum.

If you are able to help by donating any amount, I would be forever grateful. You can help by clicking HERE

Thanks in advance for the support. Since I have started training, I have lost 2 great uncles, and Karr's grandfather has been diagnosed with 2 cancers. The odds are horrible, but I want to change that.

In the mean time, here's some pictures in my goofy gear

My first training ride, last December. I went 35kms in 6 degrees. Brrr.

Me busking in downtown Toronto to raise donations

Taken in Barrie, 92kms north of Toronto. 11 hours of cycling in 34 degrees with extreme heat rash.

Just got my jersey in the mail! 3 days to go!!

Wish I were able to help more.
That doesn't seem very fair to not let people ride for not getting the minimum. What you have so far is a lot of money as it is.

Yeah, that's pretty silly. You would think that, since they want nothing more than to conquer cancer, they'd be willing to accept all the donations they could.

I think the reason they require a minimum is so that they don't have to deal with millions of cyclists. They had to close off registration for last year's ride after a few months, and over 3,300 riders had to be tracked, clothed (jersey), fed, and housed (in a tent overnight) so I think it is a means to filter out people who aren't that serious and take up room where a dedicated person could help more.

I can't afford to fight cancer. I give you moral support though.

This is for my friends who aren't on facebook lol

The names I wore on my back at camp... these are the people I was riding for. Karr's Grandparent's are under "Are Fighting...."

My team mate and I the morning of the ride. She pulled out of the Ride the day before due to financial issues (She can't pay the rest of the minimum).

Riding through the famous Hamilton Escarpment. The hill back up was 3x as long

I arrived at camp at the end of day one. These are 1/3 of the bikes form the Ride

The volunteers really are what made this event a success. Can you imagine setting up all these tents for 4,108 cyclists? Damn.

This is Bill Wall, the oldest rider at 82. He's also blind, among other things. I nearly broke down meeting him. Check out the You Tube video at the end to see why.

Right after crossing the finish line. I did it!

Are you Stephen Colbert? I've never seen someone manage to have pretty much exactly the same expression in every single photo regardless of the situation or who they were standing with. Wiggy. But congrats, that's a good thing you did, and a impressive physical feat as well.

I had some difficulties when I had a photo shoot in February with my smile...
