    Sega Saturn Back-Up help

Does anyone know how the back-up cartridge works? I get the sinking feeling the one I got with the system is dead or something. The games aren't recognizing I have it plugged in and the Memory Manager only lists System Memory.

Third party backups usually can't save from the game directly. You'd have to save to the system and then to the memory card.

As for not recognizing it.....I simply plugging it in and out until it recognizes it. I remember reading something about some memory/RAM carts that were made too thick and eventually expand the connectors inside, rendering it unreadable.

    Hope that helped.

Dude, I don't even really know what our catridge does. I think we thought it would help us play Japanese games, but it doesn't even save files. I think it might just be RAM.

Are you sure yours isn't just for RAM?

It says BACKUP in big letters. I don't know if the problem is with the cart or the Saturn and I have no way to find out.

maybe cleaning the contacts could help, but also sometimes the cartridge slot is very delicate to detect. what you might try is inserting the back up cart all the way down and then ever so slightly pulling it up.

if it's a first party sega product then it should be ok to save games. but you never know because even those break down time to time. how long have you had it? have you saved with it before?

Well I guess my Saturn was just a slut and wanted the cartridge shoved in and out a few times, because now it's detected.

                ?!?!?!?

With a third party cartridge, the SS I have recognizes it if I turn the system off and back on.

But it also stops recognizing it if I press the soft reset buttons to go to the memory utility, so I dunno.
