    Nier

Has anyone picked this up yet? Nier Gestalt comes out today, and I haven't heard anything about it yet.

Its from Square Enix, and did well overseas apparently. I need an RPG fix until Lost Planet 2 and RDR comes out, was hoping this would fill the void.

    And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope

Had put a preorder on this a while back after I read a bit of buzz online (4 months ago or so)...some controversy with things cut out of the NA version or something. Heard a bit more about it, saw the trailer, and my reaction was, "Wow, a Square Enix RPG!!" Put my preorder money towards something else.

Wait, isn't it an action game, not an RPG?

Only reason I'm interested in it is Kain from Legacy of Kain plays a book or something, right?

*sigh* I miss Legacy of Kain...

          'action rpg'

To my knowledge, nothign was cut out of the NA release, but two versions are available in Japan. NIER Gestalt, and NIER replicant, the only difference between the two is the age of the lead character. NA got the Gestalt version, since SE didn't think NA players would like the younger lead. Itmakes sense to me, since the Replicant hero is barely in his 20s.

The waves you mentioned is because one of the lead characters is a hermaphrodite: A woman possessed by a male demon. Go figure.

            Re: Nier

The cinematics grabbed my interest... and then I saw the gameplay videos and thought "Wow... this looks so generic and familiar. I wonder who makes this game..." Five minutes later I find out it's Cavia. For those that don't know they're responsible for some of the most bland and generic 3D action games like Drakengard, Bullet Witch, Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance, and a bunch of by-the-numbers anime fighting games on the handhelds.

Cavia's hit titles are the Resident Evil shooters where they maintain control over movement and camera because, well, Cavia's biggest weaknesses are character controls and camera! Their action games are repetitive, boring, and generic but if there's anything you can expect out of them it's a pretentious, convoluted story with long ass cut scenes. I don't even want to explain the true ending to Drakengard because it's literally the most "WTF were they smoking?" moments in the past 10 years.

Edit: Basically if you just finished playing Bayonetta or heck even the original Kingdom Hearts and expect something on par... don't hold your breath. Maybe, just maybe this will be Cavia's first good action game but I wouldn't put money on it.

last square game I bought was Final Fantasy VI Advance.

I honestly cannot imagine a day where I'd buy another one.

Wait...why did I cancel my preorder again?

Actually, the controversy was about the two different versions. Was not aware that it had anything to do with the lead character's age.

As for this part I quoted above, never heard anything about that. Then again, I've not really been following this game too closely.

Because you can't poke them with a stylus.

I didn't even hover over the link and immediately knew what this game was.

I'm surprised Cavia is still in business. What the ****.

They also did the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex game for PS2.

It's not that great (the controls are ****ing ridiculous) but it's.. probably their best game!

Though I have had Bullet Witch recommended to me. Probably ironically.
