    Movies that make you think

What films have you seen that force you to continue thinking about them long after they are over?

I just watched this Spanish time travel film last night called Chronocrimenes (Timecrimes), and once I began writing about it on imdb, I could not stop pondering. I'm not gonna spoil it here in case anyone has a desire to see it, but suffice it to say that if you are interested in time travel as a concept for a film, and you've only seen Back to the Future, you really should see both this and Primer.

Granted, I've only seen Primer once, and it confused the hell out of me (I didn't even know where to begin thinking about that one), but it's worth seeing. Might watch it tonight after LOST.

Timecrimes sorta bothered me from a moral standpoint. And it's not a story that will make any jaded time-travel enthusiast jump out of their seat in surprise, but it's a solid flick.

You have unlocked a new fusion! You may now fuse the Persona, Basement Dweller.

On topic, There Will Be Blood and Brazil... I had to chew them over for a while before I could decide how I felt about them. I don't normally turn to movies to find something thought-provoking.

          Donnie Darko

There can be several ways to actually interpret that mindf*ck of a movie.

I like Donnie Darko, don't get me wrong, but I think it suffers from the same problem as Fight Club and Nightmare Before Christmas. Meaning, their respective fanbases that take them as some sort of be-all, end-all.

Then again, I never really cared for Nightmare before Christmas in the first place.

EDIT @ Mora's post above: Yeah, the morality is a bit shaky re: the very attractive young woman, and the story is not wrapped up within some epic effects-laden vehicle, but for a low budget film, I think it does things right, especially with regard to all the seemingly innocuos "props" that are all accounted for by the end of the film.

That happens to any movie fanbase which is a 'cult following'

              I actually don't like Fight Club =X

Call me a simpleton if you will, but Fight Club, The Matrix, Memento, and Waking Life.

There Will Be Blood, Mullohand Drive, and the Hulk re-boot (mostly because that movie did nothing right and it ****** me off.)

Donnie Darko, took me awhile but I figured it out.

Where the Wild Things Are. Two ways to view the movie, good for thinking, but not exactly entertaining.

K-PAX. Just good stuff. Multiple ways to interpret the movie.

Donnie Darko, The Fountain, and Dark City. Especially The Fountain, because Donnie Darko felt isolated. It made me think of a Disciple music video I once saw shot in an abandoned farm house, switching between mid-twenties and present day. Unsettling, one might say.
Dark City made me think because it was all about identity, what makes people unique. I mean, at first I was like "Sweet, dude's got super powers and he killed the ugly bald aliens." But then you think about it afterwards you see more of it.
There was also a movie I saw once, where a man tried an experimental drug, that when mixed with someone's spinal fluid, would allow the person injecting it to see the memories of the owner of the spinal fluid. In the end, the man found out about the true nature of his wife's death, and a corrupt police chief tries burning down his house. The main character dies, and the final scene shows him getting a haircut in a garden wearing a white suit. It's a really good movie all-in-all and a thinker.

I just don't remember it. When I watched it the first time I didn't look at the name, I only remembered the description and I was like "Hey, screw it, it's 1:00 a.m." I found it again later but I've since forgotten it. It was the plot that had an impact, not the name.
