Peter Graves apparently was gonna be in the first Mission: Impossible movie but hated the plot twist so much he bowed out. Jon Voight stepped in to replace him.

Supposedly, a lot of people weren't happy about the plot twist. It didn't bother me. The first MI movie was pretty damn good, but I didn't like the next two, becuase Tom Cruise got some creative control and turned Hunt from a badass agent into a crybaby or something. Yuck. However, Ving Rhames kicked ass in all three movies.

I was going to make some crack about "this actor will self destruct in 5 seconds" earlier in this thread, but I passed bacuase I thought it was pretty tasteless even for me, and I couldn't think of a good way to word it anyway.
