At this point you probably could, because it's so predictable.

It's not really shocking. actually. From my point of view, a lot of government people who oppose gay rights are usually gay themselves. (Their actions actually reflect their rejections of themselves.)

There was an HBO documentary that said the D.C. area is full of closet gays that vote against gay rights regularly and vehemently, most of them married. It's not just about self-denial, it's about saving face and winning the next election.

Because popular opinion doesn't vote gay. Not yet anyway.
          ...and that's why.

So, uh, why isn't this bigger news? Is it just because it's like the third or fourth time one's been caught in the act? :B

I've never heard of this happening before, save for Mr. Garrison on South Park. But I guess either I've been living under a rock, or Senators are just really strange people. Or both.

Anyhow, I just don't get why anyone would insist on legally binding themselves to someone they love, just because that person happens to be the same sex as them. It's shameful.

That's what most of it is. They can't afford to be tolerant, because they'd be voted out and replaced by someone just as or more intolerant. So really nothing would change.

Some of too are the really die hard religious conservatives who believe its wrong and try to suppress their tendencies.

Probably. After Mark Foley, Larry Craig, and whoever else, closeted Republicans don't shock anyone anymore. Possibly since the Republicans are out of power ATM, there's less to be gained by making an issue of it as well.
