    PlayStation Network errors anyone?

I haven't turned mine on today, but apparently things are screwy world wide.

Also, games like Heavy Rain not able to be played offline because of this?

Problem is, the error does more than just prevent you from going online. It prevents you from playing certain games offline as well. The screen above is what I was greeted with when attempting to play Heavy Rain, and pressing out of it simply reboots the PS3, returning you to the main menu screen. It's the same story for other games that feature dynamic trophy support.

That seems silly. How would they expect peopel that don't connect their PS3 to the internet to play the game?

      It's bricking systems.

I'm seeing rumors that this is being caused by the calendar firmware--it just recently turned 12:00am GMT, which would make the date 02/29/10. A leap year. People are guessing that someone in Sony forgot about this, and this twenty-ninth day is triggering a DRM-like failsafe in old models that's essentially bricking them. People are trying to reset the calendar, but even if they do, their system is still screwed up.
I'd advise people to not turn on their PS3 until this sorts itself out. Or if it is on, and it's working, turn your calendar back a few months and STAY OFF PSN AND KEEP IT OFF until it sorts itself out. It's apparently only affecting fat models.

I think most of us have the fat one.

I really wanted to get Grandia from the ps network. Even though I already own the game for the PS1.

Slim for the win, thank you!

I'm still too nervous to get on.

            Don't copy that floppy!

its not 12 AM here yet, so I think I'm gonna turn mine on and roll it back a few months.

I unplugged my router before turning my PS3 on, and mine thinks it's 12/31. not bricked, but I'm not gonna turn it on again until there's a fix.

I set my clock to 12/27/09. internet is disabled. not doing anything on it until I hear I can turn it on and get a fix.

                  Re: PlayStation Network errors anyone?

Wait. I have an 80GB backwards-compatible fat one I bought just in time for MGS4.

I turned my PS3 on hoping to download the God of War 3, Yakuza 3 and Darksiders demos and got some gayass PSN error:

                  8001050F

                  or something like that.

This is the same worldwide ATTACK FROM SYKNET I assume?

So... do I need to roll back my calendar to prevent my very expensive FF13-playing machine from dying?

Guess I should just to be safe, huh?

Also, I really wish Jeroak was still here.

edit: So, mine thought it was 12/31/1999. I disabled the Internet connection in the Network Settings and rolled back the calendar to the same date as Valk. Guess I'll keep my PS3 off for a while, too.

With Heavy Rain out, and FF13 out next week, and God of War 3, Battlefield and other games I'm sure out so soon...

This should be an interesting week for Sony~

                    NeoGAF

                    Everyone READ THIS PLEASE.

Here's what's going on right now: something with the PS3's internal clock has borked in some pre-slim models. This is not a PSN issue; it has to do with your PS3's clock. This clock is NOT related to the OS clock. It seems to be a leap year bug. Setting your clock ahead will do nothing. All PS3s around the world were affected at the exact same time.

                    Does this affect me?

-If you have a Slim PS3, you're good to go. Continue playing it as normal.
-If you have a "fat" PS3, you may be affected. Some fat PS3s have worked ok, but it seems a good majority have been bugged.

                    What does this bug mean?

-If affected, your date and time has been set to a random past date. This prevents you from signing into PSN, playing any PSN games, or using any DLC. Your trophies will also not display correctly or be able to sync.

                    How do I fix it?

-You can't. Even if you don't sign into PSN, it won't help. This is a hardware issue.

                    So, what do I do?

-Wait 24 hours. Other products that have had similar bugs have corrected themselves after the "bugged" day. On Monday around 8pm central time, all PS3s will automatically correct themselves...maybe.

-If that doesn't work, we'll need a firmware update from Sony, which should be a pretty important priority for them right now.

                    Did I lose my data/themes/etc?

Your save data/games/dlc/themes are fine. They'll be fixed when the PS3 is fixed. Trophies are uncertain right now, but they'll be fine if you've synced them before the PS3 was bugged. Unsynced trophies are an unknown right now.

If I have a bugged PS3, can I still use it?

It's probably not a good idea, as I have no idea what will happen to the trophies you earn during the bugged time. Movies/media will work fine.

So there ya go, my handy FAQ.

                      Re: PlayStation Network errors anyone?

the only reason I disabled internet connection was because I didnt have much info, and thought it was a PSN issue at the time. seems like that was a pointless precaution. still not gonna enable it until a fix is available though.

So, is the random freezing and crap that's annoying me on my PS3 going to go away?

No? Nothing to do with this?

Does anyone remember last year when this happened to every Zune in the world? I can play some games like PixelJunk Monsters but all the rest give me the bugged out error. *sigh* 23 hours to go...

They'll probably fix it eventually. If not get sued over it. Its still fun to make fun of though~
