Oh, hey, SEGA hasn't changed one bit. Don't buy Yakuza 3.

SEGA cuts a significant portion of Yakuza 3 out of the American release. Why? Because American's apparently don't understand the idea of paying a woman to drink with you and laugh at your jokes. This would be like if ATLUS removed a majority of the social-sim aspects from Persona 3 and Persona 4 because it's too Japanese in it's nature and it wouldn't translate well to western audiences.

    Bull-****ing-****.

That's because Americans cannot understand anything past shooting guns and eating hamburgers.

      God bless.

But seriously, it's a stupid for Sega to remove something like that.

Now I'm torn. On the one hand, I don't care that much about hostess bars. On the other, I do want to play a hamburger that shoots guns.
So you're a fish out of water...
        Keep swimming.
        What else can you do?

Apparently it was more than just hostess bars, but some dating stuff, mahjojng, and chess minigames. A few other things too that I dont remember right now.

It might have been japanese chess though, and not regular "western" chess.

No, you can still date the hostesses. It's just the quiz and the hostess bars, far as I've heard.

So they left all this stuff in Yakuza 2, but are cutting it now.

If they don't rush it out, they can't be crushed utterly by FFXIII!

Do you think Sega knows Yakuza 3 and FF13 come out on the same day?!

                  Someone better call them!

The only reason I can see them doing this is to cut back on costs including voice actors. You cannot tell to my face that by removing an aspect of a video game, especially one that isn't advertised as a major feature to begin with, will improve whatever sales and marketability they expected the game to have. It's like if Epona was removed from the NA release of OoT and expecting the average player to notice or care.

Regarding Yakuza 3, we had a tight schedule to abide by for localizing and releasing Yakuza 3 in the west. Due to the limited time we were given we had to leave certain bits of the game out and we chose portions we felt didn't resonate with western culture i.e. a Japanese history quiz show and the concept of hostess clubs. We understand that this is not the optimum thing to do, but given the options of releasing the next chapter of a beloved game so that our fans can experience the story of Yakuza vs. not releasing it at all, we felt it was worth it to release it with 99% of the content intact. We made sure that the story in no way, shape or form changed from the lack of the quiz show or hostess clubs. You can still go into Cabarets and on dates with the ladies in the game and Kazuma still kicks major ass.
If it's such a small part, why would it have taken so long to translate it?

I didn't think Yakuza 3 had English dubbing at all. The demo certainly didn't. But then again... I'm likely the only one here to have actually played it. :B

Only the first game had english dub. The second one, and now this third one, is just Japanese with english subs.

I don't get it. If the game is subbed and... no, I just don't get it. I can always count on Sega to build up high hopes and then dash them down the road. History of Sega.
