In this review for the N64 Superman game, someone was obviously being funny in the "games you may like" sidebar. But I still maintain, E.T. for the Atari 2600 was really not so terrible.

Re: I'm offended by this!
I probably played through E.T. at least 10-15 times back in the proverbial day. Enjoyed it each time.
Except for the semi-twitchy control when on occasion, you are trying to levitate out of a well, and keep falling back in even though you are doing nothing different than the last time you did so.
You guys defend the artificial difficulty and gameplay limitations of the old 8 bit games...why can I not keep my nostalgia goggles on and do the same for the old Atari games?

There's an effort started to destroy every copy of Shaq-Fu. There's another effort started to save every copy of Shaq-Fu.
I'm going to do the same; buy every copy of E.T. and destroy it so that A) the piece of **** will never stain the earth again and B) increase it's value in the open market.

Depends on how much the fake difficulty and gameplay limitations actually impede enjoyment of the game. IMO, a bad game sucks no matter if was on the 2600, the PS3 or any console inbetween. If you like the game, though, that's your opinion. There's a few games from that era I still remember fondly, and it's a bit irritating to see people bash them just because they're old. Honestly, ET isn't simply an old game though, it's known for several problems and it's often cited as a reason behind the Crash, which doesn't help it.Originally posted by Perversion View PostYou guys defend the artificial difficulty and gameplay limitations of the old 8 bit games...why can I not keep my nostalgia goggles on and do the same for the old Atari games?
Never played ET, and given its reputation, I'm in no hurry to change that. Bad games from the 2nd generation do tend to be pretty damn atrocious given that games were still pretty new back then, some game flaws weren't recognized as such, and developers couldn't simply hide a wreck of a game behind pretty graphics or a good soundtrack. Plus the games were small enough that when they were a mess, it was pretty damn obvious.
