Activision can burn in hell...Cease and Desist at Sierra fansite

Linking to Gamespot article, which links to Kotaku article.

Consumers voted with their wallets, and as a result, the original GH peripheral developer is now closed down.

Ya gotta love a company being purchased for gobs of money a few years prior (see also Pandemic and EA), only to get shut down when they become an income liability.

As much of a liability Rare has become for Microsoft since they were purchased, I at least give Microsoft credit for having faith that eventually, they'll turn out something worthwhile.

Rock Band guitars were better designed anyway. By that, I mean the buttons. They just feel more comfortable than GH's.

Sadly, the absolute best guitar controller that's ever been released is still the toy guitar-looking one for GH 2. And I'm not alone in thinking this. It's got the best strum, the best whammy bar, and because it's not almost full-sized, your arms do not get as tired holding it for hours during marathon sessions.

Every GH guitar I've owned after this has not lasted more than a year (the one that came with GH: Aerosmith didn't last over a month), but the GH 2 one still works like a charm to this day.

Also, Gouf...I think you are missing the point. Activision is treating developers (you know, with real people who need jobs) like ipods or cell phones. You know, disposable technology. Once a device has served its purpose for a year or so, it is disgarded in favor of the next big thing.

Sure, Rock Band guitars are better in some respects than GH's current guitars. But that does not excuse Bobby Kotick from acting like the money-grubbing scumbag he is.

To paraphrase a comment I just made in the LOST thread, Bobby Kotick needs to be eviserated.

Gotta make cuts to keep that fat executive salary. I can't adjudicate a business with anything less than $50 million a year, don't you know?

He's rolling in money because he's serving up products people want! What's so wrong about that?!

Because anyone really deserves a 50 million dollar bonus. I WONDER WHY AMERICA IS HAVING FINANCIAL PROBLEMS

EDIT: Compare his paycheck to how much the people actually made on the games. :V

Yeah, I know I'm oversimplifying this, but this is a great example of why creative companies shouldn't allow themselves to be bought out by corporate suits.

I'm sad to see RedOctane go, I really liked their DDR pads.

I'm sure running a company is a very easy job with no stress.

And many people have managed to do it without being an overt douchebag, unlike Mr. Kotick.

Bobby Kotick had a keynote at the DICE conference, and he tries to make amends and backpedal on his, "I want to take all the fun out of making video games" comment.

Fact: video games are a business. If you're losing money, you shut your business down.

And they pay him a lot of money to make decisions like this. If it doesn't work out for Activision he'll find himself unemployed.

[12:13] "Activision is a great mothership, if you want the opportunity and support that provides. If you want to sell out and move on, there's some other companies out there who can help you." Raucous laughter and a few isolated claps.
I'm trying to come up with a comment to this but I'm drawing a blank.
