    8 deadly sins

According to the devine comedy, the levels of hell are Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud and Treason. TREASON? That's retarded.

Isn't Treason removed in current incarnations? Treason can be a good thing sometimes?

How is treason retarded? Society is based on mutual trust. You trust your neighbor not to sleep with your wife. You trust the overworked waitress not to spit in your food even though you are kind of acting like a dick. You trust your best friend not to rat you out to the guards to be beaten and executed in exchange for a handful of silver just because you were peacefully spreading your beliefs which they didn't agree on.

It goes back to Dante. The ninth circle of hell, which has the worst punishments is home to traitors, because their Dante considered their acts of betrayal to be the most wicked of sins:

Yeah, it makes sense in the context of the story. Which I'm guessing Kire was unfamiliar with.

"1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor."

Actually, from what I read, there were twelve different deadly sins at different points. Pope Gregory I even removed Lust so he could add Extravagance (unrestrained excess) and Envy at one point.

                          Originally the line up was,

                          -Gluttony
                          -Lust
                          -Greed
-Despair (unhappiness about your situation; i.e. what God's given you.)
                          -Wrath
                          -Vainglory (unjustified boasting)
-Acedia (neglect to do one's duty)
                          -Pride

                          Just a little FYI.

Maybe "treason" could be construed as disloyalty in general, rather than specific disloyalty to one's nation?
