First thing I notice when I reach the front page to count the new posts is the ammount of new PMs I have.

You know, right there in the corner on the main page, where it says, "USER CP" and has the users avatar...right below that...pretty hard to miss, especially when you click the new posts link.

It's also displayed quite openly in the left corner of the forum pages...

I think it's unnecessary to make a topic to point someone out to a pm, it's like calling someone to tell them to check their email.
