I almost always avoid spending more than $50 on a game, $55 if I decide to rent it before making a final decision to buy. Heck, I'm willing to wait even on games like GTA nowadays to drop well below the $50 level.
Don't make us do an intervention on you, man. I may need to bring out the strong stuff.
While Valkyrie Profile is a really good and cool game(the phrases "To my side, my noble Einherjar!" and "Come to me dark warriors, battle awaits us!" get me pumped up every time), I'd not spend more than $50 on it. But any way you do get the game, I don't think you'll be disappointed. It was one of PSOne's last great games.
But no, I would never spend $100 on a game. All the games I buy now cost <$20 and I love it. Instead of getting one game, I can get a bunch of used ones that are just as good.
I know a seller on ebay who is selling Valkyrie Profile new, still in the plastic wrap, etc for $100.
I wouldn't deal with that seller though...in the 12 days since posting , he has yet to mail out my game, making me wonder why I even paid for 2 day priority shipping.
I remember playing that game for like 20 minutes and then going to EB and buying a strategy guide. And then playing for 20 more minutes. And then never playing again. And then trading it back to EB like a year later.
