I have avast installed, and windows 7 keeps telling me I need to install antivirus software. and avast is one of them that it suggests. but I have it. is there any way I can tell it that avast is my antivirus software so it leaves me alone? aside from turning off the message. because this makes me think maybe avast didnt set up right?

Uninstall, reboot. Install, then reboot right away. I had the same problem, once. It happened primarily because I didn't reboot right after the installation of avast!.
If that doesn't work... then I don't know how to help ya.
