I was wondering how high you can make a character's HP and MP go. I know you can give enemies up to 9999 HP or MP, but is it the same for main characters?

I ask this because in my game, I'm planning to have an item that recovers 2000 HP, and another one that recovers 9999 HP. (Oviously the latter will be harder to obtain :lol ) But if a hero's HP can only go up to 999, then what's the point?

And by the way, what does the Luck stat do? I think it either determines critical hit rate, or evasion rate, but I'm not sure. Anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

The luck stat effects both of what you mentioned (critical rate, evasion chance).

The HP goes up to 9999 for party members too, if memory erves me right, but why would it make a difference?

Will, your memory is perfect, Party Members' Hp and Mp caps are set at 9999.

Thanks guys. That clears up a bit. (I severly doubt that the player is going to get anywhere near 9999 HP in my game, but just in case...)

It's really unnecessary for a player's HP to go that high, though. You'd wind up potentially having a party member with more HP than the final boss, and that just isn't right.

Of course, there is also a gameshark code for RPGM1 to give a monster 65,336 max HP, *but* you'd have to use the gameshark code before you begin making your game.

I severly doubt that my characters HP will even get close to 1000, let alone 9999. The item that restores all HP is meant to be like an elixer from the FF games; it restores all your HP no matter how many you have.

Ah, yes, back when I was dabbling w/ a character customization system I made it too easy to give all of your characters 9999 in all stats. My playtester actually did it and killed the final boss (Which was supposed to be virtually indestructible by any means other than an attack that did 9999 HP in damage) in a battle that went something like this: Boss does 1 HP, Hero does 1000 HP damage w/ a REGULAR HIT against a defense of 9999! :explosion It went back and forth like that until he killed the boss.
