    Prisoner deprived of his D&D.

Found this from Penny Arcade, thought you hosers might take an interest:

Basically they took away this prisoner's entire Dungeons & Dragons materials based on a court ruling that fantasy-related roleplay gaming promoted gang behavior in prisons.

To me it would seem a healthier alternative to allow them roleplaying adventures should they choose them over actual gang behavior. Hell, therapists encourage it all the time, so why is it suddenly such a bad thing?

I'm guessing it'd be tricky to determine what's fantasy and what's a proxy for running criminal activities from inside the prison.

It'd be pretty easy to use the maps and equipment in a D&D game to give directions on what you want to happen on the outside... then again, it's not as though the correctional system is doing a bang-up job of limiting prison gang activity anyway.

the ruling itself is garbage, yet since hes in jail im all for it. punish people, thats how it needs to be. yet by taking this stuff away i dont doubt that they will be promoting violence as he lashes out at prison guards and such.

im so tired of idiots making policies, at least give a reason that isnt bogus nonsense.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Role-playing games promote social stimulation despite what all the stereotyping says, but yes, criminals should not have TOYS. They forfeited their rights when they ****ed someone else over. The game also requires dice which is considered contraband in most prisons.
