The following is true:
There is this really weird thing about mothers that name their son "Aiden"/"Aidan". And no offense if you have named your child that, BUT...more than a dozen times I have witnessed a mother in public constantly making sure that they announce the fact that their child is named "Aiden". "Come heeeere, AIDEN!" "Keep up...AIDAN!" "What would you like to eat, AIDEN?" They can't go one minute without finding or conjuring up an excuse to say THAT name. Like it was some big accomplishment to go to babynames.com and find the name "Aidan" right there near the beginning of the alphabet!
This does not happen with other names, and it's not due to Aiden being the most popular name as of late. Here's why: in each of the forementioned experiences of this phenomena, I not ONCE heard the name of any of Aiden's siblings spoken by his mother. There could be possible neglect issues there. I don't know.
When Blackberry told me jokingly that she was going to name our son "Aiden", I said that if it were possible for there to be less than a zero percent chance of our son being called "Aiden", then those would be the odds of our son being called "Aiden". Oh, and I get the irony of the name "Aiden" being repeated through out here non-stop. It is in the hopes that you are as sick of it at this point as I am.
So, the next time you are in public, listen for the name "Aiden" spoken by a mother. If you hear it once, nonchalantly eavesdrop for a little bit. I guarantee you will hear the name OVER and OVER and OVER again. It the darndest thing I have ever seen.
