A rant about the name "Aiden/Aidan"

    The following is true:

There is this really weird thing about mothers that name their son "Aiden"/"Aidan". And no offense if you have named your child that, BUT...more than a dozen times I have witnessed a mother in public constantly making sure that they announce the fact that their child is named "Aiden". "Come heeeere, AIDEN!" "Keep up...AIDAN!" "What would you like to eat, AIDEN?" They can't go one minute without finding or conjuring up an excuse to say THAT name. Like it was some big accomplishment to go to babynames.com and find the name "Aidan" right there near the beginning of the alphabet!

This does not happen with other names, and it's not due to Aiden being the most popular name as of late. Here's why: in each of the forementioned experiences of this phenomena, I not ONCE heard the name of any of Aiden's siblings spoken by his mother. There could be possible neglect issues there. I don't know.

When Blackberry told me jokingly that she was going to name our son "Aiden", I said that if it were possible for there to be less than a zero percent chance of our son being called "Aiden", then those would be the odds of our son being called "Aiden". Oh, and I get the irony of the name "Aiden" being repeated through out here non-stop. It is in the hopes that you are as sick of it at this point as I am.

So, the next time you are in public, listen for the name "Aiden" spoken by a mother. If you hear it once, nonchalantly eavesdrop for a little bit. I guarantee you will hear the name OVER and OVER and OVER again. It the darndest thing I have ever seen.

You should name your child Bloodmaster.

it'd be a badass on the playground.

I hate people that give their kids stupid names like HOPE and FAITH. Might as well at least give them cool stupid names. This is my son STRENGTH, and his brother MIGHT.

I hate the name Jayden. It's stupid.

Speaking of which, I heard there's a shortage on "Bort" license plates.
Find a dog, honk it's nose. If you are bothered by this sentence. I guess you're just not cool enough for the noses.

I'm likewise sick of the name Aidan. I joke around that in about 20 years' time, every male going into college will be named Aidan.

Unfortunately one of my good friends is a mother and guess what her son's name is! Oh well.

My friend's friend's roommate has a cat named Aiden. And sure enough, you're right. There's always this otherwordly emphasis on the name AAAIIIDEEEENN.

I just assumed it was because she was talking to a cat. But this can't be a coincidence.

Apparntly "Addison" and "Blake" have become ridiculously popular girl names lately. Guess what my nieces are named.

I figure that I'll know I'm mature enough to raise a child when I have the foresight and self-control not to name him or her something ridiculous.

                      This may not ever happen.

Hope, Faith, Strength, and Might are all decent names.

Common English names are just derived from old phrases and words or the bible.

"alex(an)-der\ is pronounced al-ek-ZAN-der. It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "man's defender, warrior". From the Latin form of the Greek name Alexandros. The name was probably coined originally as a title of the goddess Hera, consort of Zeus."

                        Yeah.

                        Weird name generator.

"Pilot Inspector" will always be the best name.
