    MAG(Massive Action Game)

I can't believe this flew under my radar for so long, . Has anyone played this? Public beta is free on the PSN.

The game... its amazing. Its like old school tribes/planetside. I played it for 5 hours without realizing it today, that rarely happens.

This game is everything COD:MW2 should of been for multiplayer.

Weapons and unlocks are incredibly well balanced.
Maps are large, sensical(Given I've only played the smaller maps to boot).
You can actually customize your character per its faction and country of origin

The only problem is typical of FPS on consoles: Controls are sluggish, but aided with a weak aim assist.

    Played the original closed beta.

    I posted a youtube video.

Got kicked out of the beta.

I can use other accounts to play if I wanted to, but I don't wanna bother with that.

I haven't followed the game at all because I really don't care about team-based shooter MMORPGs (outside of the occassional ArmA 2 match) but when I saw 256 player battles I instantly thought of another Sony awesome-but-petered-off project. No point in not giving this game a go.

the 256 servers aren't available yet in open beta, as far as i know. I love team based shooters.

I miss tribes, Battlefield 2142 and Planetside so much these days. TF2 just doesn't cut it with only 32 players max.

As someone who doesn't play a lot of multilayer FPS games, I found the MAG beta to be very intimidating.

I do, however, love playing some Team Fortress 2 and a little Killzone 2 multiplayer whenever I feel the urge. Haven't played any of the new Call of Duty games, yet.

Yeah, I went Raven as welll, we're the smallest group by about a thousand.

Hardest is domination, Raven defense map seems poorly made.

If anyone has played battlefield 64-man servers, you should realize how incredibly unfun it is to have that many players in a shooting game. It is just too hectic, and you practically die every few seconds out of no where. I can only imagine how frustrating this game would be with its 100+ man servers...

You aren't the Master Chief. You aren't a god of war.

I'm sorry you can't run into a room full of bad guys and still win. 64 player Battlefield games were amazing, and as for the Penny Arcade comic, you should read his actual comments on the game.

I never mentioned running into a room and blasting away. Every single 64+ player online games I play, all that ends up happening is a mass amount of people camping and you end up dying in seconds to minutes.

In my opinion, 16 player games are where the sweet spot is when it comes to deathmatch, anything more and the game ends up turning into a "who can camp this spot and blast as many people before you die" game. With 100+ players, I can imagine how frustrating this game would be. It may be good, but I think I rather just wait for the new battlefield to come out.

It was still a funny comic.

I've not played either the closed or open beta, so correct me if I'm wrong here, but from what I remember reading about the game in interviews with its devs, this question about just mass, random chaos, was presented, and the answer seemed to have been that the game is designed as an objective-based shooter, with squads, squad leaders, platoons, platoon leaders, companies, company leaders, and one guy on each side (assuming the full 128 vs 128) who acts as overall commander. The game seems to be designed to reward those players who follow orders and complete objectives, and penalize those who want to play it Halo/Rambo/etc style.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure there even IS any type of deathmatch setup in this game. Because you're right...more than 16 players in a free-for-all WOULD not be fun. However, this game seems to eschew that setup, and instead position itself as the ultimate team-based shooter. Not sure if victories are persistent like they were with Tom Clancy's EndWar, though.
