Congrats. I've been making it for over a decade now. I like to balance the heat with the sweet. A bit of dark chocolate, cinnamon, brown sugar and/or mango is a nice offset against any number of peppers/spices I usually add.
Also, I usually do not use kidney or chili beans. I like to make it with black beans if possible, or sometimes use three different types of beans. I try to avoid ground beef if possible, but depending on what ingredients are around, I usually end up using it anyway.
